Took my first Test in a Mini Cooper....first thing on a Monday morning. Broken wrist sustained over the weekend playing rugby may have had something to do with failing

Driven loads of "performance" cars over the years, but the one that truly frightened me was a 6.5 litre (I think from recollection) Bentley Arnage....when I hit the Sports mode button..... Holy crap!!!

A guy I worked for years ago, had a couple of "muscle cars". Pontiac Firebird TransAm.....very nice, aesthetically very pleasing, but not good if you couldn't keep it in a straight line.

The Chevy Corvette (754 cu in I think), that was an all round fun car!

Far too many to mention them all...probably an E Type Jaguar if I had to choose one, just for the sheer joy of seeing that beautiful bonnet stretching out ahead of me.

I own a classic mini Cooper, and you'd be hard pushed to find anything as fun to drive, especially on a twisty country lane.

Unfortunately, nearly all cars nowadays are designed with that market in mind.

Agressively styled cars with 'attitude', designed to appeal to road warriors, boy racers, or simply easily led mugs, significantly outweigh by numbers vehicles designed to be in any way useful, spacious or kept simple.

Thanks a million to Clarkson and co. for

glorifying anusoidal motoring culture and marque worship on their puerile TV programs. As a result we get the choice of cars we do. None currently I would particularly choose.

I've waved goodbye to the best I will ever enjoy as they have come to the end of their road. Some after 20 years of great service.

if your being a pedant your correct the sierra cosworth was only ever offered as a 2wd the sierra saphire cosworth was offered as a 4x 4

Anomalously, I haven't yet driven either a full EV nor a hybrid, nor even been a passenger in either type; but I have driven some really powerful ICE vehicles, such as a Nissan 300 ZX; the fuel gauge went from full to empty in no time; a real guzzler!

As an adult you don't really sit in a Spitfire you put it on. It's quite scary being a passenger when your eyes are level with truck wheels and you know it has as much protection as a wet paper bag.

Wouldn't be adverse to taking a Bugatti Veyron for a spin just to see lol. Once was made to drive a big Merc by my boss at the time but found it a little strange as it had no feel or feedback had to keep an eye on the speedo to keep a constant feed, this was in the days before drive by wire was automated. Nowadays I find it most comfortable driving my rattle box work van about lol, no style at all.

Currently I want to drive my 2003 Suzuki Ignis 1.3 3 door hatchback. However I need to get round to changing a steering balljoint and get it re MoT'd.

Apart from that, I want to drive another diesel, tin top Mazda Bongo. Easily the best vehicle I have ever owned. Even my current Honda Stepwgn doesn't quite do it for me.

There is nothing much else around which really appeals to me. They are all over complicated, over stylised and over priced.

Like a poster above, I had Ferraris etc. in my young days and they also fell down road drains, or got swapped for something more useful.

I work at a Range Rover dealership...

We've had brand new cars delivered on recovery vehicles because they broke down before they made it on to transporters and we've had to fix them before they're delivered to the customer!

Yeah, they never really paid enough attention to rear suspension on those cars. Leaf springs and live axles combined with all that torque and horsepower makes for an "interesting" driving experience.

When I was in Howth a few days ago, I saw a 1985 2CV that had obviously been imported; it was in superb condition and running very well too.

I had always fancied being in one either as a driver or passenger, but not in a hilly area as 2CVs have a justifiable reputation for being grossly underpowered compared to modern cars.

However, they were very well engineered with very innovative and functional features.

One car I would love to drive is the DUKW

an amphibious vehicle used by the US army during WW2.

I had the pleasure to see one,in both roles-land and water, today at the Grand Canal Dock in Dublin.

For safety reasons, in its current role as a tourist attraction, it had several additional large flotation devices appended to each side, but it was still very impressive for a vehicle that is well over eighty years old.

Very rarely seen nowadays, the Duck (DUKW).

When I was a kid in the 1950s and 60s in Jersey there was a fleet of them, painted red, which used to take passengers at high or low water and all in between states of tide, between a slipway on land and and Elizabeth Castle offshore.

For years they were in authentic condition until someone decided to build all weather superstructures onto them, thus ruining their historic value.

I had that when i drove a ford RS200, I was so excited to be driving a full blown rally car, but it was crap, quick yes but as a road car hopeless as soon as there was any traffic, the smell of clutch was choking.

The RS200 was a car built for the short-lived Group B rally regulations. Developed with help from Williams GP Engineering, of F1fame, and built by Reliant, of Robin fame.

Unless he’s talking about an Esc0rt RS2000?

Want to try a Rimmac, and probably a Mclaren P1. Managed to drive some gorgeous fast cars and never fails to make me feel 10 years old again.

Enjoy driving some of the older cars as well but lets be honest even the fast 80s cars are slow by modern standards and it's hit and miss if your going to even get home

Agreed. Far more useful generally. Prefer a diesel with plenty of torque at low revs but no denying that my current petrol one is quieter.

I also have a twenty year old 3 door Suzuki hatchback configured as two seats plus load space for my local runabout.

You lot are welcome to all the cars you lust over in this thread. none of them any use to e whatsoever.

f someone gave me a Ferrari or similar, I wouldn't even bother sitting in it even once. I would sell it straight away and use the money to buy something old but useful and put most of the money by to keep it going for years to come (and towards paying £12.50 a day to drive in the ULEZ).
