Yet again another annoying sales call. 5th today asking telling me I need a ppi claim, accident claim. Claim claim claim claim.

I just pretended to cry to the last rep. Told them how depressed I was that I haven't had an accident in the last 3 years. By the end of the conversation I swore my undying love for him. He hung up.

Best ways to get rid of them pleeease x

I tell them that the messages tell me I shouldn't claim or bad things will happen. When they ask what messages I tell them it's the messages from space and how I've made a tinfoil hat but that some still get through. They usually don't stay on the line long after that.

I once answered a similar call by announcing 'Norfolk Constabulary' and the caller hung up on me! I've also given the caller a good old fashioned '**ck off' once or twice

My home phone is ex-directory and I'm sick of these calls too. How they get your number when it isn't supposed to be listed is beyond me!

Now when the phone rings I listen for a few seconds before laying the phone down and leaving the line open for a while. If it's a genuine caller they will be saying 'hello, hello?' during those few seconds.

Lol. Don't start me off. I had my number changed because of this problem. Now we've started getting it all again! Most the calls sound like they come from India. The new trick is to ask for someone , then regardless of whether or not you are that name, they just carry on. Last time she couldn't understand a word I was saying back to her, so I reverted to reciting the local Indian take away menu.

They have a set script to read from apparently. A different script for a number of possible answers you may give them. If you make some totally random statement ( my name is lord moon and I live in a tree for instance they get confused and don't know what to say. God how bored am I at work hahahaha x

Whilst your method is a funny way to deal with it, don't you think that its a tad disrespectful?

I bet you don't start reciting your local chippy's menu when the calls from a UK call centre do you?

My mum's retired two years this april. She gets at least 5 sales calls a day, usually from the same companies she says no to. She then gets between 40 to 80 spam messages a day. All from banking scams and PPI/accident/insurance.

When I pick up the phone, I either cause them to lose their temper and shout at me (hopefully blacklisting us) or if I'm really impatient, I mention the ASA.

The Advertising Standards Authority is like the television censorship people. They are there to regulate advertisement and marketing companies that either rip you off, falsely advertise to you or harass you. If you complained to them regularly, they go and do the legal work for you, like with the Kirby Services company that put the elderly through pressure sales tactics to make them invest in shit they dont need.

Its just shocking how many people arent made aware of the options they have!

Whereas it's illegal for them to get that info, it's not illegal for them to get hold of old numbers.

We get people asking for my great granddad who has a different surname. I tell them he's dead, like only recently, and never to call again unless they want to go to court. Works a charm!

If my day is going well, I revert to the random answer syndrome to confuse them and piss them off. Time is money to them, so somedays I give them my time just as a bit of compensation because they certainly wont get anything else from me.

I simply ask them to hold on 60 seconds while I turn a tap off - put the phone on the shelf and go out for an hour or two, leaving the line open!

If their phone bills get too expensive they may think of making less calls!

I do feel sorry for some of them. Times are hard and if they are forced into any old job to make money, I cant begin to imagine the pressure and the abuse they put up with. But mostly I am guilty of ading to it haha

Its worked for me thank god,,,,i know that "its a dirty job but someones gotta do it" but i really lose it with these people,cant help myself

I did this yet still got the calls & then more

Changed my number yesterday & if it continues, I'll just give up my landline.

Sounds like you're accusing me of racism. Erm don't go there. I think people are generally sick of silly accusations like that.... It provokes antagonism which then does result in racism.

If someone calls from a uk call centre that can understand English I tell them in no uncertain terms what I think ... And guess what , they understand!

To answer your question no I dont think it is. If they choose to work for companies that invade my home with nuisance calls I think how I handled it is probably very light compared to others.

You see I tried to word my response so as not to bring the racism subject into it. I agree that the calls are a nuisance but my opinion is that you are being disrespectful by the way that you deal with it

do a Google on tpsonline (Telephone Preference Service) once you have registered your number with them it's actually legal to make unsolicited calls to you.

If I get a call they ask for me , i ask who's calling if its a sales rep i say hang on I'll go and get him and then just carry on with what I'm doing . In the end they hang up

I signed up with TPS and have only had 1 or 2 cold calls in the last year.

It doesn't stop the so called 'survey' for marketing calls, but they are only 1 or 2 a month.... and I quite enjoy fucking them about evey once in a while.

you can register landlines and mobiles. it does work but you have to ensure that you always opt out of any marketing options when putting your details into any applications etc

if you have registered ad still et calls point out that they are breaking the law, ask for the callers name (they ave to give you a name, but not a surname) and adise them that if they do not remove you from their lists you will make an official complaint about them to the regulatory bodies.

by law you are entitled to know where they bought your information from.

bitching and moaning and trying o be 'funny' really doesnt fuck up their day as much as you think. you are just another water cooler anecdote with your own special nickname

I get very very few of these now since I registered on the Telephone Preference Service (you can do it online). I am also ex-directory.

stupid PPI drive me mad, i now answer, leave phone on table, let them talk away whilst i go back to lounge and continue with my tea lol

Just ask them for their companies full details - name, address & where/who to send the bill to.

When they ask what bill say you are answering their questions at £10 per min & you want to know who to bill.

The calls will stop.

We have done this with several companies who called aftr reading it online & it does work.

Also caller display on your telephone service isnt too expensive lol

They get one warning not to call again and then as soon as they do they get the ........................... whistle ........ three sharp blasts on that and they soon put the phone down ......... and hey guess wot ..... they dont ring back for a very lonnnng time

If I'm having an arse day I see such calls as a good vent for my ire.

A good day I revert to the tried and tested random answer method.

Another trick is to say "You rang me so you must know how much I'm owed, just send me a cheque as you've got my details." Then up the ante by demanding the money as soon as, repeatedly. Since adopting this tack I don't get many phone calls any more.

Top tip for JW's - Tell them your amateur phlobotomist...I haven't been bothered in 5 years, in fact they actually cross the road when they pass my gaff now.

To register for the Telephone Preference Service, visit the link below: www. tpsonline.org.uk.

BT and Virgin both have links to it, it takes about 28 days to be registered but once you are you should stop receiving unsolicited calls.

If they are a company calling on behalf of a UK company they cannot call you, and are breaking laws if they do..all the information is on the site or the other 2 mentioned.
