Hi all what are we supposed to do in life? I’m heading towards my 40’s and just feeling a bit fed up at the moment. It all just seems a bit work, eat, sleep & pay for more, repeat. Does anyone know what I mean?

Ah the midlife crisis beckons

Get a new hobby, start a fitness routine, get a dog!

Get yourself a flash sportscar you can't afford

But seriously, yeah life is confusing. There's a quote I heard that may help, attributed to Charles Bukowski:

"My dear,

Find what you love and let it kill you. Let it drain from you your all. Let it cling onto your back and weigh you down into eventual nothingness. Let it kill you, and let it devour your remains.

For all things will kill you, both slowly and fastly, but it's much better to be killed by a lover."

It's all a bit repetitive isn't it. Then not a lot of leisure money because of the financial crisis. Vicious spiral. Hope things feel better soon xx

somewhere

I got like that in my mid 40's ....kids in their teens....same routine every day ..in the same job 20 yrs

Started a part time hobby job and volunteer one night a week for a charity that visits old people in their sheltered housing

Changed my life completely except still in the same job after 38 years....love it and wouldn't change

Travel, enjoy new things, find new adentures, lif you life each moment. You think life is shit then that is what the universe will offer you.

You're in full control from this moment onwards, enjoy your journey and don't wast time.

Know exactly what you mean. Work, eat, sleep your way to eventual retirement (if we actually get there of course).

Plan yourself a gap year or two (or nearly 7 as it turned out) and have a complete change. There's a big wide world out there and waiting for retirement to explore it may be leaving it too late to fully appreciate it.

I hear you OP. We've worked 7 days a week since January and are absolutely exhausted. I'm currently asking my husband what it's all about, is it really worth it. It has better be when retire or god knows what I'll do. I may just loose the plot!

Keep hoping for a lottery win too, but buying a ticket would help in that one

I do think the key is to have plenty of plans in place to look forward to, go out and enjoy the simple things in life and find something to laugh about daily. This is what helps get me through the tough overwhelming workload. Roll on summer!

I do know what you mean

It's easy to get onto that particular treadmill and difficult to get off it.

Have a think about your priorities. Do you enjoy what you're working to pay for?

Try and cram as many lifetimes as possible into this one that we have been blessed with.

Do as many things as you can, travel, do things just outside your comfort zone etc

Well according to Camus the honest position is to accept that life is absurd.

Even to say it has no meaning is a leap of faith.
