No.

Some people are very adept at keeping that front up and get bored of the forums before the mask slips

Interesting question. As I often think in song lyrics, I Spy by Pulp springs to mind...

'You never let mask slip, you never admit to it, you're never hurried

Oh, no, no, no'

"That eventually everyone's true colours show in the forums? "

No some people act like what they are not on the Internet also you can't say a person's true colours have shown in a forum.

Its only when you meet that person or those people away from the forum crowd you see them for who and how they are.

It has been known in the past. I'm not liked that I know but I hold my beliefs and stand true to what I believe in rather than 'follow a crowd'

I don't know you or anything but I have noticed that about you, you are firm in your beliefs and back them up with justifications. I don't agree with all of them but that's a moot point. Still likeable qualities. As is not following the crowd.

But I wouldn't use me as a barometer for anything lol.

Definetly. I've been here forever and seen people's behaviour change. Sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad.

I think we all have off days I know I have in the past but I think when you've been here a while you can tell whose just having an off day or who deep down is a nasty piece of work

Some threads can be really good filters.

I very much doubt you see the true personality and views of the majority of forum posters.

Having witnessed in person many of them over the years this has been my experience.

The best ones are those that appear here and act one way and then completely change their posts and commenting style to mimic the more successful posters.

Then loads of the regular posters start fawning all over them and naming them in their popularity threads.

I think people can have good and bad days here and we see that, it doesnt mean they have changed character as such just we are seeing more of the depth of a person, and we all have different moods and feelings and reactions to people and things.

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I think that there are some people who are very different depending on the situation they're in. And I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, as sometimes it is a coping mechanism.

I think that over time in any social situation, real or virtual, people will change how they react to certain things and certain people, and that's normal as well.

I also think that there are people who enter into a situation, such as the forum, pretending to be something they're not, and unless they're exceedingly good at the pretence or abandon the situation when they believe the jig is up, they will eventually slip and "show their true colours".

I don't necessarily think that it is easy for people to tell which of these (or other) descriptions fits a person purely from reading comments on a forum and from heresay, however.

Somewhere in Co. Down

I think it depends on the person. I think I'm the same on here as I am off the forums and in real life. Sometimes I have to edit my posts before I post them but I tend to say what I actually think on here sometimes a bit more gently than I may otherwise .The only main difference is I'm quite shy in person and can be quite awkward when in larger groups of people I don't know.

There are others who I've seen post and wind up for fun on here but act different in pms and say it's all an act on the forums I don't tend to chat with them for any length of time though as I find trolling pretty immature and pointless.

There's also those who are quite vicious in groups and messages outside of here but are very good at being the perfect forumite on here, all understanding and kind when putting daggers in the same people outside of here.

You get the other side too where some come in all guns blazing and then end up relaxing and chatting and interacting on here with people.

All in all though I do find the forums handy for knowing if I want to interact with someone off of here and thanks to them I did meet someone who has become a very close friend with added benefits.

The forums have always been the same though and has an eclectic mix of people and personalities and not all will get on with each other. It's what makes it interesting at times.
