Transsexual Transylvania

Peck's Anchovette fish paste. We grew up on the stuff in South Africa - lovely spread on hot toast with a hit cup of tea to wash it down.

They stopped making it a couple of years ago. Apparently the market for it dropped off.

I miss Chinese minced pork noodles (bak chor mee) the most.

Mee pok (the Chinese equivalent of tagliatelle pasta) flash-blanched in boiling water, tossed with soy sauce, black vinegar, pork lard, and sometimes Chinese chili oil/ketchup, served with Chinese fish/meatballs, soft minced pork and liver (also flash-blanched), braised mushrooms, with toppings of fried shallots, chives, and fried pork lard (equivalent to pork scratchings). You can also add some leafy greens like lettuce as well for colour.

Mm yum.
