After struggling with my mental health for many years i thought i had it under control the past 5 or so years. Sadly the past few weeks ive become very down and angry at myself, can anyone recommend good self help books that i could try to get myself sum help, im not much of a talker, prob why struggle on here as well, so dont want to go down professional help line again.

Have a look at the YouTube channel Therapy in a Nutshell.

Book - Self Compassion by Kristin Neff

General advice - do things that make you feel good about yourself and remind yourself why they make you feel good

Try journaling if you don't like talking

Or try ringing Samaritans. They can't give you therapy but they can Listen.

If you don't want to talk to a professional perhaps try talking to a friend or try a different type of professional help. They aren't all the same.

When I'm in a bad place I find helping others helps me.

Good luck op

There are some great podcasts to listen to which touch on the subject without being too heavy.

They have been a huge help to me when Iv struggled.

The joe Marler show is always a good one.

You say you’re not great at talking but you’ve made a great step posting on here.

Keep your head up and you’ll get back to where you want to be.

A couple that i can suggest are:

The compassionate mind (it is rather long though)

The little CBT workbook

Both you should be able to get on amazon.

I hope you find something that helps. There are many lovely people on here who will be more than happy to listen if you feel able to. Sending lots of hugs x

A book that I found incredibly fascinating and extremely helpful was:

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma

Book by Dr Bessel van der Kolk.

It's definitely worth a read. Also, if times get that rough, please call breathing space.

Get professional help. You wouldn’t treat a heart condition with self help books, why try them with your mental health?

Therapy. If you can find a service nearby that has trainee therapists doing their qualification hours, they are often much cheaper and still excellent. Books wise I can reccomend following therapists on insta for their reccomendations as it heavily depends on why you're struggling, eg is it stress or trauma or accute etc.

Lots of great therapists on insta and YouTube who can start to steer in the right direction xx

Podcast are pretty good once you find the one that fits around you. So I'd do a search for your needs

Eat well, regular exercise and get enough sleep. Mediation or relaxation groups also help. Own the problem and work round it.

The dot in the i

Google MITocw you can self study using all the resources and courses from MIT, it doesn’t cost anything to use. I opened it and typed mental health into the search bar and it said there are 2480 results. Worth a glance maybe

Mental Health is still one of the most common but in noticed illnesses out there. Self confidence and Anxiety are main contributors.

Some of the links on here are brilliant.. But in between just be happy in your own skin and don't be judged by how others look on Fab.. Smile on the inside,, shine on the outside
