rugby v football which is best and why !!

I love rugby because ive played it all my life and enjoy the contact in it as well and we show respect to the ref ( man or womam ) and I can take my kids to a game where there is no racist chanting or abuse !!

It confuses me when I try to run after it. I feel stupid when it changes direction. Rugby undermines me!

I would put football first but I do enjoy Rugby in all formats.

You are confusing premier league football with real football, you wouldn't catch anybody diving around in the games I play in, they would be promptly snapped in half.

Why ask a loaded question when you know you prefer rugby to football?

I'll watch most sports, including Rugby (I confess to only really being interested in England v Scotland though) but my passion is for football. Setting the overpaid primadona argument aside, football invokes passion and sentiment that goes back years and years and I'll appreciate a good game of football even if it doesn't involve my team. Watching Lionel Messi is mesmerising and to be able to say I lived while he played is something future generations will never experience in much the same way that I can't say what it was like to watch Pele, or George Best as they were before my time.

Yes, I wish some of other crap that has attached itself to football would go away, crowd violence, racist chanting etc, but my love for the game supercedes any of that.

Through school i played both but always preferred football. I carried that on after school as i was better at it and loved it with all my heart.

In the last 10 years however i've begun to turn my back on it. I can still watch my team play but quickly get bored watching anyone else, with the nonsense that goes with it. Rugby though, i can watch any rugby match (union for preference) and really admire the respect and discipline in the game. Watching my local side play i've witnessed bad language in the crowd be shouted down by other supporters and the perpetrator has stopped. Would that happen in the round ball game? I think not. I'm far happier taking my kids to a rugby match than a football one, the lessons to be learned are far more worthwhile and the sport is equally as exciting.

I prefer football simply because it seems more accessible for youngsters……

Playing rugby in inner city environments does not seem very practical whereas many of the skills involved in learning to play soccer can easily be adapted to suit most surface conditions,,,

Rugby, and not just for the thighs

There is much more respect shown on and off the field. If any player back chats the ref the whole team is penalised on the pitch, crowds can sit mixed together, no segregation, no releasing the fans seperately etc

Have worked at Wembley for both rugby games and football games and always felt much safer at the rugby games.

Years ago I would of just dismissed Egg Chasing but I dont mine watching internationals. I still find its a bit stop start but when I tell you I love cricket aswell, I imagine you'll tell me to fuck off with the stop/starts

i remember playing rugby in school against a team & they had a female om there side but i wouldnt tackle her bcos she was humping of shit guess thats 1 way of racking up the points lol.

To be fair to Rugby even though its still our countries national sport its world wide reach is growing, more and more countires are taking it up and exceeding.

It will however always be in footballs shadows. Thats where the money is, thats where the popularity is.

Rugby is a bit more structured and predictable, there is no way for example a tier 4 rugby team would have a chance of making a cup final in the way Bradford has. It is that unpredictability which makes it football over rugby for me despite the issues around abusive fans and morally reprehensible players!

ok it can be rough but if the other team hasn'tgot enough players we give them players ! But u dont see fans fighting or shouting abuse at other fans and you can take your family there and feel safe and yes bloodgate did happen that was bad !

Total agreement i assume as you down south its union you play whereas league is better in my _iew though union does have some good bits especially the final whistle lol.

More seriously though is fact the aggression is on the pitch played hard by hard people. The respect shown to the officials should apply to soccer but powers that be are scared to clamp down.

Fans are not segregated like footy fans because they are treated as and behave like normal folk do. Whilst the game is on you support your team with passion but after everyone mixes and have a drink together the players come in and mix with fans. You get none of this in footy.

In rugby if a player gobs off to ref they are moved ten metres down pitch if soccer did same it would reduce it also if rugby players do no get up after tackle they are injured not like soccer players who are over paid and act like babies.

Anyone deemed to dive by ref should be sent off then over time message would sink in till then will not watch soccer unless i need to sleep.

With respect I'm assuming you haven't played professional rugby..Union only went pro in 1995 and in that short time the ethos of the game has changed enormously, give it another fifty years and maybe we won't be quite so smug !

Im at our club now getting changed for training and the football club have cancelled there training session because its to cold lol the same football club that wouldn't play before Xmas because the pitch was to wet and boggy !
