Yes, a pub near me is famous for it's soup in a basket. Although, it might be chicken in a basket now I come to think of it.

I guess that's why everyone has the family coffin stashed in the garage.

It's a good point. Under UK law a dead person must be in a coffin when entering the cremation chamber. But why? It's a waste of resources, generates C02 emissions and is just symbolic. Would a large Jiffy bag suffice?

You can be buried or cremated in shroud with no coffin

No they are not reused

Do you seriously think crematorium staff take contaminated dead bodies out of their coffins and put them in the burner?

It's not the coughing that carried him off

It's the coffin they carried him off in

I got a cold call from a salesman offering me a coffin. I told him that’s the last thing I need.

I think it is disgusting that hearses get re-used.

There should be a new one for each funeral, chargeable to the deceased's estate.

Why has the funeral industry overlooked this obvious enrichment opportunity?

A good quality coffin is like a Patek Philippe™ watch. You never really own it - you just pass it down from one generation to the next.

Do you squeeze the new body in on top of the decaying ones ?

I'm guessing you mean are the bodies taken out before cremation and the coffin reused.

The answer is No.
