My nan’s spare room.

Can’t beat it, today would be a picnic day but it’s grey and rainy so it’s officially a packed lunch instead.

We have loads of picnics. We've got a gorgeous wicker hamper with cutlery, plates etc and a cold box that plugs in the cigarette lighter. We take a small table, embroidered table cloth and linen napkins and dine like lord and lady muck.

We really enjoy it. Also we often just put a flask of hot water and some coffee sachets in a box with a packet of biscuits or some cake and head off to Camber Sands or buy chips and sit on the beach

Those seagulls have no fear! Last year when I went to woolacombe I was walking across the beach when a seagull swooped down on my chips! Wings flapping in my face and everything. Chips all over the beach. Me screaming, everyone staring, my stupid friend videoing! You can’t even imagine the scene it caused

Yep I love them! I remember the excitement of going on picnics with my parents. It wasn't anything fancy, we didn't have any money. KwikSafe? I think that's what it was called basic crisps, cheese sandwiches and little fairy cakes. We'd all get in this knackered Volvo, glee and laughter aplenty.

Drive to the same woods, our dog would be going crazy. Set up a little spot by the river.

And it felt like an escape. The sun shining, splashing in the river. Eating awful, awful sandwiches with margarine.

I remember being so envious when I grew up of the perfectly turned out families with wicker baskets, snacks from the deli. Straw hats.

I bought a wicker basket a few years ago. I've never been able to recreate that simple magic of a cool summer's day eating awful sandwiches and running around enjoying life.
