I think they are essentially the same basic plot.

Small boy, doesn’t have real parents, has some special ability, meets old friendly guy who trains him to use his skill. Meets bad guy, defeats bad guy. Doesn’t get the girl.

Not seen any Potter but rinsed the Star Wars franchise stuff.

Think you might have missed the boat esp with original Star Wars, maybe needed to see a a kid to appreciate them really? I showed a friend of mine not long ago who'd never seen them, she really can't understand what all the fuss is about.

Why not cut out the middle man and watch one. You can always turn it off if you don't like it and you never need to watch another

The one is set in the past in a galaxy far far away and the other is about teaching children witchcraft.

Harry potter: don't bother, too long, too many of them, no humour.

Star wars is better, in my opinion, but I like sci-fi.

All of the films from both of these franchises are really good, entertaining, emotive, and fun. they are each worth watching in their own right.

I can't imagine that you would feel in any way disappointed by watching ANY of the the films.

I would say it's tough to get into either as an adult watching it for the first time they're both franchises that people grew up with and would therefore re-visit for nostalgia purposes. That being said, I would go with Harry Potter as that's what I grew up with

Worthing

Watch a New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. The rest blurr into one but have some good moments. Return of the Jedi has not aged well at all.

First couple of Potter films are ok. The rest are much darker and more complex but not better for it.
