What has defined you

To be the person today...what drives you, moulded you into the person you are.

Mine is a long tale of betrayal, lies, injustice and untrust.

But what about you?

For too long I let the wrong things define me:

Career

Shame

Fear

Finances

Only relatively recently have I learned to redefine me in terms that are more positive. Its a work in progress, but the journey is interesting

Having to be an adult when still a child and always being the strong protective and supportive one in the room.

Then despising all that before realising I could do it on my own terms.

Very little in the way of identifiable occurrences/behaviours. Just life, I suppose.

I wish I had been given an autism assessment as a child, but even without one I can now identify traits and adjust.

Probably a lack of female influence at home. If I’d had a long term partner living with me I would probably be a very different person.

All of my life experiences as a whole, beginning with parents who gave tough love, but taught me independence and tenacity by allowing me to make my own mistakes, but making sure that I owned the consequences and learnt from them. Later in life, refusing to let negative experiences and people make my cynical and jaded, to appreciate the small things and look for the silver lining in every cloud.

Everything that’s good and bad has made me the best version I am today.

But I’d say the biggest is a childhood where I blame someone else, and my adulthood where I’ve only myself to blame.

My dad taught me pretty much everything worth knowing, he gave me a job when I left school taught me a trade and how to earn a living for myself but more importantly how to act and was someone I could turn to with any problem and wishing 10 minutes of talking to him you would feel everything was great. I’d be completely different person without my dad Wish I’d had him here the last 18 months or so

Sadly pain and loss has moulded me a lot through the years and taught me many useful things as well, but the main thing is the core values that my parents and nan drilled into me as a youngester.

The combination of the 2 has got me to a place where I'm quite proud of who I have become as a man today.

Life is the decisions we make in the situations we find ourselves.

Some little French dude with a lazy eye said that.

I define myself. Sometimes others try but I was done with that a long time ago.

Love, loss, joy, suffering. Take your chance and roll the dice or hide behind a rock till it all goes away.

Learn from the past but don't let it define you. That's probably how I see it.

Everyone is complex and thats what makes them who they are.

My experiences of early life/childhood, relationships whether family, friendships or of the romantic sort have impacted my life. How I've come to terms and accept all, defines me.

Despite all my hardships, I'd still find time to sit and listen to someone when its needed, provide practical or financial help when I've been able to. Do whatever I can to help if I'm able to, despite it very rarely being offered to me. I like to make a difference no matter how insignificant it is to me, may be opposite for someone else. That kindness has been abused however.
