Did it work out for you?

Did you manage it, and the reality wasn’t as you’d hoped?

I wanted to be an air hostess and pull a little trolley and click-clack in pretty shoes through the airport.

I did do it for 12 years and it was amazing. The shoes and trolley bit weren't what I'd built them up to be but seeing the world for free? Bloody awesome!

So I got half of it done, I’ve been around the world many times now, as an engineer, and it’s been fun

There were 2 jobs that as a kid i wanted to be when i grew up (physically grew up, not mentally).

I did the first after leaving school, for 14yrs.

And the 2nd, im still doing.

Both lived up to their expectations.

But unfortunately the 2nd one has lost a lot of its attraction now.

Oh, and of course, my new unexpected role as a white knight for mucky maroon headed wenches in distress, of course.

I was a dumb young laddie so the things I wanted to do were stupid ranging from being a ninja to being one of my dads lurchers.

These days the only real goal for work is to retain the ability to tell whoever I want to get fucked and suffer no consequences, feeling free is the main thing I’d hate to be trapped in a job where some estrogenic fat fuck of a “man” who wouldn’t say boo to a mouse in any social setting uses his slight position of power to talk to those beneath him like absolute shit and those working under him have to tolerate if as they need their job. I’d sooner work in horrible physical conditions as long as felt free than be one of those. Freedom and time is worth more than money in grand scheme of things

Had a fair crack at it, played in a few local bands with mates in my late teens / early twenties, played in local pubs, clubs, youth clubs etc but usually someone left the band just as we were getting a good following (usually the bass player) and the rest of us imploded.

what did you play…?"

Guitar, keyboards and vocals. Do you play any instruments?

Travelling

It changed every year, almost always had to do with animals. Some realistic, others fantasy pipe dreams.

So talented!

I won’t say it. I will not say skin flute.

Not a thing. I was ‘removed’ from recorder class in primary school and absolutely screamed at every music lesson pre gcse. Something about reading music just doesn’t work, in my brain. I can sing a little though

Thank you! I'm bit rusty now as I've not played for years.

I'd like to say wow! I've just seen your profile and yes I will say it, you can play my skin flute anytime! Unfortunately I'm a bit above your age limit, too far away and married. Although, due to her health issues, we no longer have sex. We don't want to split up so she lets me play as long as she doesn't know what I do.

I wanted to either work in finance in some way OR I wanted to become an occupational therapist - focusing on military rehab with equines.

I ended up as an accountant

Have you seen James acaster’s story about being in a band? It’s hilarious! (If you like his stuff)

Did it work out for you?

Did you manage it, and the reality wasn’t as you’d hoped?"

Yeah, James Acaster is hilarious!

Actually a mate of mine played guitar in a local band about the same time I was playing. I lost touch with him when his band broke up and he went to America. A few years later the keyboard player and co-lead vocalist in his band took over from Fish in Marillion!

"I never wanted anything specific - maybe that's my problem! I've never known. Jeez this is deep for a Sunday

I’m reminded of the line from the Baz Luhrmann ‘Everybody’s Free (to wear sunscreen)’ speech/song

‘Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life

The most interesting people I know

Didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives

Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don't‘

I absolutely adore this song! I play it when I’m having a bad day, it reminds me of my mum so much

It really does, doesn't it, even if I'm not sure I've done as well as I should have at taking some of his advice!

On the OP, Red, I also wanted to be a footballer, but quickly realised that was a pipe dream. I also loved maps (still do), so maybe a sub-consciously wanted to be a cartographer.

I now want to be a ski instructor when I grow up...

"There were 2 jobs that as a kid i wanted to be when i grew up (physically grew up, not mentally).

"

I know you are dying to ask, RfD.
