Tom read that the cold winters freeze the diesel and they light fires under fuel tanks.. Any fab ex tank crew ?" The whole diesel freezing is complete bull unless you’re talking below about -15 degrees C, plus it’s not actually winter now for quite a few months. As for tactics, I’d imagine standard 3 or 4 tanks per squadron acting as a unit. The whole “formation” crap that you mention is only for use on flat open plains with no cover, try doing it in a semi urban or forested area and you’ll quickly grind to a halt

"NOW WE'RE TALKING!!! Been obsessed with tanks for like a decade now From what I've gathered the leopards are gonna be used sparingly, if it's true what's been reported that Russia has already captured a leopard 2 from the Ukrainians. That's never good for any nation due to the enemy gaining access to classified technology Germany will dictate to the Ukrainian high command to make the best use of those leopards without putting them in great risk for this very fact Also when you consider the technology onboard modern leopard 2, the Ukrainians have the advantage of better communications between combined arms forces, but my guess is that it's better to keep the leopards together in small groups to maintain cohesion within each group. Russian MBTs that Ukraine own have worse overall mobility than a leopard given they can only roll at a snails pace in reverse, compared to a leopard that can hit 31kmh backwards" Surely if you reverse the turret then backwards is forwards ?

"Why attack the tank when you can attack the tank tracks and disable the bugger. Are the tracks the weakest point or do they continue like runflats. Take out one track and surely it can only drive in circles like a swan swimming with one leg" NATO has a different doctrine. Disable the tanks tracks the main gun still works but then you have to deal with dismounted infantry and ifvs. Russian tactics is to overwhelm with superior numbers. There is a reason why NATO heavily invested in squad fireteams and ATGMs. Tank goes down you deal with a Bradley. Bradley goes down you dealing with javelin crews and artillery support. Ukraine is playing the long game. Thunder runs and defend deep. Atrit the enemy resources constantly.

"Why attack the tank when you can attack the tank tracks and disable the bugger. Are the tracks the weakest point or do they continue like runflats. Take out one track and surely it can only drive in circles like a swan swimming with one leg" this is why targeting the tracks doesent work with the challenger2 During the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Challenger 2 tanks suffered no tank losses to Iraqi fire. In one encounter within an urban area, a Challenger 2 came under attack from irregular forces with machine guns and rocket propelled grenades (RPGs). The driver's sight was damaged and while attempting to back away under the commander's directions, the other sights were damaged and the tank threw its tracks entering a ditch. It was hit by 14 RPG-7s from close range and a MILAN anti-tank guided missile.[57] The crew survived, safe within the tank until it was recovered for repairs, the worst damage being to the sighting system. It was back in operation six hours later. According to the British army, one Challenger 2 operating near Basra survived being hit by 70 RPGs in another incident.[58

They just won't have the ammo" They might call up 1.5m conscripts, but getting them into combat is very different. They should all get some rudimentary training, ( but that hasn’t necessarily been happening for the most recent call up). Got to feed, transport, arm and ammunition, uniform, kit (canteen, bedroll, etc) all of them. And green conscripts are going to die in their thousands Moral issues will arise.

"Of course but apart from the other equipment and the bravery .. it will come down to the tanks ..." No. Ultimately it will come down to logistics and military intelligence. It’s no good having the weapons if you can’t use them because of a lack of fuel and ammo or you don’t know the best place and time to use them effectively. If it was just down to who had the best toys Russia would have won this a year ago… Putin was actually counting on this. "The UK's Challenger 2 tank has blasted away the competition in Nato's Exercise Iron Spear. The armoured vehicle competition for main battle tanks, held in Estonia, saw a Challenger 2 tank, from the Queen's Royal Hussars beat a German Leopard 2 tank, operated by Spanish personnel, and the third-placed American M1 Abrams crew. Major Anthony Kaulback, Chief of Staff for the enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup in the country, said the regiment was one of those who had donated Challenger 2 tanks to Ukrainian personnel to use in their fight against Russia. UK says 1,900 tanks among list of Russia's heavy losses during Ukraine war British Challenger 2 tanks arrive in Ukraine and will 'soon begin combat missions' Challenger 2: The British tank that's never been destroyed by the enemy "The fact that one of those Challenger 2s has just won a competition as a lethal tank, one of the most lethal tanks in Nato, is really reassuring… for those Ukrainians that will be using them on the battlefield," he said. He explained the competition saw the crews and their tanks put to the test to see how many targets could be engaged within a time limit. "One of the most potent things about the Challenger 2 is that it's got something called the hunter-killer mode," he said. "That means the commander can be independently scanning to acquire targets whilst the gunner is also trying to find targets but in different arcs."" Maybe build more challengers to match our Abraham inventory so we can go head to head in a realistic combat environment. 1 crew doesn't mean shit. So celebrate away You are still outgunned. "That means the commander can be independently scanning to acquire targets whilst the gunner is also trying to find targets but in different arcs." Maybe build more challengers to match our Abraham inventory so we can go head to head in a realistic combat environment. 1 crew doesn't mean shit. So celebrate away You are still outgunned. Tanks do not just go by themselves in a combat environment. Yay you!! It's not a win.I can guarantee if it became US against UK you would be done in days. peace. Step up and be the glory you once were and get back to me. Bit touchy there Blu. Although seeing your latest armed forces recruitment campaigns perhaps I can see why. " lol true
