"As you’re all probably aware there’s a test of the emergency alerts by the government on the 23rd April at 3pm. Even if on silent this alert will sound. Can be switched off in settings….for those who have second or secret phones " If it's turned off, it can't ring!

"You can go on the Gov.uk website and opt out of alerts. " Nope. The gov.uk page tells you how to turn it off on your phone. It's not possible to opt out other than: -turning the alerts off in your phones settings For this specific known about alert you can also: -disable 4G/5G on your phone -have your phone off or in airplane mode at the time. The alerts work by sending a blast message to anyone connected to specific cell towers, it's not done by your phone number etc. It's all using the same technology that lets your phone connect to the cell towers in the first place.

"I understand the concept but in reality a warning is unlikely to save many in the case of a true emergency. Due to our geographical location some of the warnings are not really valid in the uk. However was long as the net product is lives saved I am in favour I do however worry (as refuge as have said) that some victims of domestic abuse and coercion may not realise this is coming and their phone will alert at the weekend and subsequently make their abuser aware. " I was about to say about that. It really worries me and I hope as many as possible get the info on time. For that reason alone I think it’s a stupid idea. Also because of causing a panic/stampede anyway. I remember as a teen (1980’s so we genuinely felt nuclear war was a possibility) asking a relative what they’d do if they heard the 4 minute warning “head straight for the nearest big city and hope to God I’m killed instantly” which I didn’t get at the time now I do.
