Over the rainbow, under the bridge

I've had extensive ones since giving birth some 30 years ago. They don't bother me and I certainly don't think they make me unattractive. However, having spoken to other women about this many do feel ugly with them. One person I know hides them from her hubby and even undresses in the dark!!

How do you feel about them?

I have them...

They look a lot better since loosing a chuff loads of weight and getting some tan on too.

But I'm getting into the mantra of love your body....it's hard but hell it's worth it

Siren was lucky in that with her two pregnancies she never got a single stretch mark. She's reasoned that as she quite tall her skin did all it's stretching in her teens lol.

I dated a girl years ago who had stretch marks and she called them her 'mummy pocket'. She reasoned that she'd earned them giving birth to her daughter and was proud of them.

I never tan. Always white. But still think I'm attractive. As Sophia Lorenzo said ; sex appeal is 50% what you have and 50% what people think you have.

Guys get stretch marks too. I have them, a constant reminder of having been overweight for many many years.

How do others _iew them on men, I wonder? Are they as tolerated / ignored as they are on women?

Just a thought, as there didn't seem to be any guys owning up to having them!

The wife has some, she's starting to see my side of things, they are a badge of honour, each one is a little kiss from the babies as they grew in her womb.

I also have stretch marks, where i train in the gym, and grew, i now have them top of my arms and thighs. They don't bother me.

I guess it's a woman thing hun, we're never satisfied are we, but I'm fairly happy with how lucky I have been. If I had loads then quite honestly, I don't know how I would feel, hubby always says I had his children and he loves it regardless, but as a woman, well we're self critical, but personally I think they are totally natural and women should be proud xx

I've not had any children but i've had extensive surgery since i was 14 and i have alot.

I'am really self consious and hate them.

I've been told i may not be able to have children but the thought of more stretchmarks during pregnancy. Is a major turn off.

As much as i hate saying this, i have seen some womens stomachs which i do find unattractive due to the mass of stretchmarks.

Its not exactly something which I think many guys discuss, nor take pictures of!

As someone said, in women its a sign of 'the lioness bearing her cub'.

In men, its seen as a sign of 'the sloth bearing his pies'.

I've had 3 sections so not only do i have a lot of stretch marks my bellies really baggy too, i have tried all sorts to get ride of it but due to the amount of times my stomachs been cut open the muscles are fooked, when i look at it it reminds me of a deflated balloon, all wrinkly and saggy, if i have the money id have it removed but i dont so i have to live with it

I very rarely get naked when im having sex, i cant relax when my bellies on show, i have to have a bit of something round my midriff at least

i know a lot of men say they dont bother them but i think thats because they are used to a few on a flatish belly, i think my belly would put a lot off

It is refreshing to see so many men saying stretch marks do not bother them, good on you all .

I was bullied at school because I had scars on my lower leg from a burn and upper thigh from the skin graft so a few wee stretch marks don't bother me.

personally i really believe that it is the media that feeds insecurities. There are creams for stretch marks, wrinkles and scars. Yet every mark on a persons body tells a story and that story is what makes you who you are today.

That's such a shame you feel like that. My stretch marks are extensive and I have a long vertical operation scar too. When I lost a fair bit of weight my belly became more saggy but I can honestly say it has never bothered me.

Up until I had my oven removed 7 years ago and even after 1 c section I had never had an over hang as I see it. I at first hated it but as I thought about it I realised that over hang is a very small price to pay for now having a life free of so much pain. I don't allow it to bother me and again havnt been turned down or had men run when they see it.

Don't bother me in the slightest but I used to meet someone for regular sex and she was obsessed. Was such a shame and despite much reassurance, she would never fully relax, always have her hands covering her stomach and after a while, it was frustrating. I would be a liar to say otherwise but the control of how she feels is with her, that I respect.

Its more than just the media which feeds those insecurities.

Sadly there are some prevalent attitudes and opinions within the Swinging world which quite happily feed the fires of peoples insecurities. Swinging's primary driver is that of physical appearance.

When skin gets stretched it sags - nothing but costly surgery will correct it. You can go to the gym and tone up all you like but once the skin has lost its elasticity that is it - it cannot be changed.

Very true - I was, however, thinking, originally, about those that women get when pregnant. Now that others have posted about non-pregnancy ones though it's interesting. I suppose I just didn't see that side of it.

My first was emergency, after 17 hours labour and failed forceps. He came out weighing 10lb9oz no wonder I couldn't get him out. They thought my second pregnancy indicated that the baby would be of equal size so recommended an elective c section, so I've had two and don't plan on every having any more even though the doctor said I had a lovely uterus lol. I've got loads of stretchmarks, I'm really not surprised because I was the size of a house. But it's my overhang from the section that bothers me most. I can't even look at my tummy because it's so ugly and I cover up when I play

I have no stretch marks on my tummy, but I do have a skanky big scar from my hysterectomy and a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, looks like a damn tram line, horrible, I might have a tattoo across it to disguise it a little.

Going through child birth is tough enough. For me, it takes real guts to have a c-section so hats of to you and the lady who has had to go through it 3 times. Your scars are testimony to your bravery

I had no option, it was an emergency, and they did a shite job and I ended up with MRSA x my second was a vbac with forceps though. determined he wasn't coming out the sun-roof!

I hate mine too even though the scar is quite fine its the little pocket of fat that now sits there that's horrid. Its fine when flat on my back but can't just lay there can I lol x

I have stretch marks on my stomach & boobs from pregnancy & on my hips & thighs from puberty, they have never bothered me one bit & have been part of me for so long that I never give them a second thought.

since having my last child however 18 months ago I now have that awful 'jelly belly' & overhang that's been talked about, that bothers me, alot!

I have developed a hell if a lot of them whilst carrying my twins n I love them they will be a lovely reminder of this perfectly natural and beautiful process my body has gone through to make me the mother I've always wanted to be. If others don't like them that's their choice but ill never be ashamed of them

I got an infection in part of mine which makes the bottom end of it (just above the lady garden) large and lumpy. It still doesn't bother me. I know what you mean - but it will just fade into a light silver line. It's nothing - honest.

True - but I think most women with stretch marks will have a saggy tummy. Unless those stretch marks are not the result of pregnancy just growth.

"Stretch marks are fine ...its the saggy belly that's the turn off

When skin gets stretched it sags - nothing but costly surgery will correct it. You can go to the gym and tone up all you like but once the skin has lost its elasticity that is it - it cannot be changed."

I also thought this for years but its so not the case, if you exercise, stretch, tone and build the correct muscle groups there is no reason for the sag...also the appearence of stretch marks can be greatly improved by PROPER hydration of the skin and body...which in turn improves the skins elasticity!

You simply get back what you put in!

Which I have. But as you say the APPEARANCE can only be IMPROVED. I stand by what I say. Any decent dermatologist will make it clear that you cannot CURE it. Once it is stretched, it is stretched. You can spend hours at the gym and a fortune on creams, lotions, hydrating formulas, moisturisers, etc, but this will not change the fundamental nature of stretched skin. It is not just stretched on the surface. Deep layered damage to skin remains.

I agree, I was stretched beyond belief with my second but after a few months doing specialised training intensively several times a week, and a very balanced diet my baby belly has flattened out!

Must just depend on the person I think

No it doesn't. It depends on the level of stretching, it depends on the skin type. Some women have told me how bad their stretch marks are only to have shown me a few piddling little ones.

These, once faded, can barely be seen.

Can I complain then about the prolific number of profiles with 'No fat hairy blokes', 'No Beer Bellies', 'No cocks smaller than 8 inches'!

Because I could find those expressions of preference fuel my insecurities about my self image.

Right.....Blokes don't have negative self image issues, do they?

Your right, but there are still plenty of women who dont mind fat hairy blokes with average sized willys, so why worry about those who dont.

I like this thread, it is sensitive, not overly fawning... it does feel real.

but if a guy posted something sensitive, it is not always so. The worst offenders many times are other guys elevating themselves.

Swinging helps some people with body issues, others less so.

My fundal height was over 40cm (aka off the charts) at just 32wks and he didnt stop growing, my skin was extremely stretched as he was a 10lber and I'm only 5' 2". I had inches of baby belly and it can and has been reversed on me. It does depend on the skin type which obviously depends on the person - we're all different. I wouldn't ever be as presumptuous to say "everyone can get rid of loose skin by hard work" but some people can, as I have! Some people can just through luck and good genetics!
