Why do people complain?

About the wet stuff the rain

Without it the grass would not be green

On the horizon trees would not be seen

Rain seems to promote all our troubles

But without it there would be no puddles

So we really should stop complaining

When next we wake and it’s raining

There is something about snow

The White stuff and I think we know

It reminds us of playful frolics

Of being cold and the drinking of Horlicks

Games on sledges and balls made to fight

Of a cold dark winters night

But its gone too soon all of a rush

To use up the fun before it becomes slush

I heard a question once which made me gasp!

What colour is the wind a man did ask

Strange I thought I must surely take note

The next time the wind is caught in the sail of a boat

Captured, with no where to go

Think of a colour, red green or even indigo

But why ask a question of this kind

Simple he said I am totally blind

We all want the sun to shine forever

No rain or wind or snow not ever

But without these companions of the sun in the sky

All we would do is sit in the sun and roundly fry

These companions should be celebrated not to mock

If we didn’t have them we would use all the sun block

Sunbathing would be subject to a total ban

Because by then we would all have a lovely tan!

Suppose what I am saying in a round about way

That our weather is gorgeous and here to stay

Subject that is to the phenomena of Global Warming

And opinions on that are still forming

But celebrate the rain wind and snow

The sun takes care of itself in a self-righteous glow

So Jump in Puddles and from snowballs hide

The colour of the wind? Look and you decide

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I don't mind the rain, I just mind how bloody much of it we're getting

Trees need rain to grow, but they also need sun!

I write poetry myself so I applaud you for a well written piece. It's a shame these forums don't permit text formatting, as it would benefit greatly from it to see verses and structure.

Nice peice.

I just read 'If' five mins ago in the throne room. I always leave a couple of books on the shelf in there. Two of them are my favourite poetry books.

This is one of my favourite poems:

~

Leisure

~

What is this life if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

~

No time to stand beneath the boughs

And stare as long as sheep or cows.

~

No time to see, when woods we pass,

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

~

No time to see, in broad daylight,

Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

~

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,

And watch her feet, how they can dance.

~

No time to wait till her mouth can

Enrich that smile her eyes began.

~

A poor life this is if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare.

~

Did you see that?

The wind blew off my hat

It’s a real pain

The smell of city rain

Its almost time to go

For a walk in the snow

It’s a bit of a slog

Trying to platt this fog

Is that how much it cost?

That covering of frost

I bet that would be nice

The longest sheet of Ice

I love a current bun

And am partial to the sun

Perhaps on this I could fail

Finding a rhyme for hail!

Taking Wishy and a Throne Room theme

Silence is golden

A state to be holden

But noise can be quite good

As if I would

Silence is sometimes needed

To think to judge to be heeded

Noise in its place is sometimes required

If at a wedding a disco has been hired

Silence can be a source of embarrassment

Especially between lovers daggers are sent

Noise can explode pent up feelings

Usually with neighbours banging the ceilings

Silence is required in a church

When for your god you do search

Noise in its forms can be music to ones ears

But that depends on the advancing years

Silence on a summers day

In a field surrounded by hay

Noise from a clap of thunder

Can be classed a bit of a wonder

Silence and Noise poles a part?

One follows the other at the time of a fart!

And Finally

Home, I like to be there when I can

Words from a song by my favourite man

But to travel the world in all its glory

To stand and tell of a magical story

Of places that have been seen

And those in our minds or so it would seem

Of people in far off lands

With beaches of pure white sands

Of fish so painted in gold

Of palm trees to the wind are ever so bold

And the sea o that mystery words do me failing

To swim to dive and certainly sailing

But home is a place with roots so firm

A place of solitude in which to serve your term

Of three score year and ten

Only to leave and travel once again

Without a home to always return

Of the world we would not learn

So set sail and reach far out

Intrepid traveller without fear or doubt

But remember from whence you came

For its there to return always the same

Home I like to be there when I can

Words from a song by my favourite man

Were decisions made on whether the weather was involved in the name?

Nah, I think it was just a snowball at the bar that clouded her judgement
