I think it's to offset the cost of cleaning all the vomit up. The roof has partially open to the elements and when a gust blows (as it does permanently that high up) it's quite a nerve shredding experience. I'm not great with heights but I climbed the Eiffel Tower once to the second stage, and then took the lift to the top. Shit the fookin life out of me!

I recently went up the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and an adult ticket was less than £17 so I've no idea where the shard gets its price from. I'd only visit it to watch "Spider-Man" climb it but they took out a court injunction preventing him from climbing it. Hmmm missed marketing opportunity there as he's climbed nearly all the worlds significant buildings.

And then I'd only go if it was free, London's had enough investment as it is. Don't get me started in the Olympics!!

It's a shame that locals have to pay the same amount as tourists, it'd be nice if there were concessions to people from the area... even if just for their first visit then any more they could charge fully... not sure how they would keep tabs on it but surelt wouldn't be too hard to do

To go to the spectating platform at the top of the Empire State Building it's $47.50, but you can save $21 of that if you get a New York Pass.

Does London have a similar type of day pass, it has enough attractions to warrant one?

I flew over the Hoover Dam and landed in the canyon for a champagne picnic. It was one of the highlights of my trip. Took my breath away. And for all the magnificent structures they can construct on the strip in Vegas, nothing could compare to the natural beauty of the canyon in my eyes

We stayed in Caesars Palace when we went to Vegas and some silly bint tried to sell us a 'View Vegas from the Air' trip, and she wasn't too impressed when I replied, "We just flew over the fucking place on our way here!"

It is a high price but tourists will pay it so its unlikely to reduce. I wouldn't pay it as its London and I'm not interested, there are much nicer touristry buildings to see than the Shard. But of course I've been up the Empire State Building a few times (at about £15 for an adult ticket) and I suppose New Yorkers wouldn't be interested in that

Hahaha good point! But its different in a helicopter, the only way to fly.

I also stopped at Ceasers, the only hotel in Vegas with 'European' topless bathing. Stayed at the Luxor too, but Ceasars everytime for me

25 quid to look out of a window. i can do that at home for nothing.i worked in canary wharf tower. Its really not that spectacular. London's a great city and the best place to see it by far is from the pavement

There is a London attractions pass but it's not really worth it. To get the value from it you have to do too many attractions in one day. There's a lot to see.

The Emirates Airline cable car also describe that journey as a flight. It is worth doing at dusk as the lights are coming on over London. Magical.

People do just that all over the world. I've been to the top of Swiss Re (the Gherkin) but that was a do and free for me to attend. I wouldn't pay for the Shard but if invited I wouldn't say no.

Will it be 'an attraction' to thousands of foreign tourists to London?.....well the London Eye already is, and 3.5 million tourists a year pay around £17 for the chance to ride on it.

It is almost irrelevant if local people or British visitors to London are prepared to pay £25 to take the trip to the top of the Shard, there will be plenty of tourists that will, and as it's construction never cost the taxpayer a penny then every ticket sold brings more money into the economy.

Incidentally tourism in London brings around £20 Billion into the economy every year, so any new 'attraction' can't be all that bad....can it?

It's not a fairground ride....it's a £500 Million construction, built with private money, that is a massive office building that includes some of the most expensive Real estate in London.

So I doubt if they are relying on the _iewing platform to fund it's construction or running costs.
