"Doesn't anybody remember the horror that was the Telephone nationalised industry, and British Leyland..be careful what you wish for." Yes, if you had a problem you spoke to someone in your local exchange who sent a bloke in a van around to fix it, NOW you speake to someone in Bangalore, the Phillapines, or Mumbai who has a bad comand of the English laguage and a time delayed telephone - well thats progress!!

"The lot and let the profit go back to central government. See how right Maggie was, we are all better off in the free market look how the big utility companies are fighting among themselves lowering prices to attract customers. Wonder where the money came from to give that guy his £13,000000 pay off after a few yrs of robbing us just look at your gas/electric bills and you will see." You must have a very poor memory if you can remember anything nationalised that was not a tax payer black hole. Telephones - BT was a joke and completely mismanaged. Railways - maybe a train would come maybe it wouldn't. Leyland Motors - say no more..... Just exactly which industries do you want to see profit from? Energy bills are so high by the way primarily as a consequence of our desire to be good citizens of the world and pay more for green energy. If the energy companies were nationalised there would be no effort by the government to hide the extra cost and it would be very much easier for them to levy it. Be careful what you wish for....

"It is not the role of government to be the main employer for the people it governs. It's role is to ensure that government is run efficiently and transparently and nationalising companies would not achieve that. I don't believe that any company should be nationalised and I would support selling off every corporation currently owned/managed by the government into private ownership and let it compete on a level playing field with it's competitors." The role of government is to help people live their lives, part of which is enabling them to have affordable fuel, travel, etc. If you think privitisation is the way to do that given the evidence you're seriously in denial.

Energy bills are so high because of payoffs as above that and bleeding us dry so they can pay the shareholders and there is no restrain whatsoever from the government. Think that guy has never been on a train, easier to get a seat in India trains late or don't run and of course we have to pay a a lot more than ever for a ticket and even if you don't travel by train you stay pay a lot more as said they are given billions every year for the shit service. and it is a lot cheaper to travel in most of Europe but head in the sand in here again.

"Energy bills - sample comparison cost per kwh in $ cents as of sept 2012 (source Wikipedia) UK - 17.85 France - 19.39 Germany - 31.41 Spain - 22.73 Denmark - 40.38 Brazil - 34.18 Our bills are relatively low unless you compare with Third World countries and North America." You are seriously quoting this table when it explains there are a number of things not taken into consideration and that's apart from the fact the dates from some countries are over a year apart and the UK has had big% rises from the UKs date on the table which September 1st 2012. Some are March 2011 Uk will be well near the top now.
