We know it’s still seven weeks away but is anyone else really excited for Eurovision? We’ve already got about 10 favourites picked out haha Queen of Kings by Alessandra (Norway) and Cha Cha Cha by Käärijä (Finland) are probably our top two though.

Yeah, we know it’s always political and probably a fix but it’s still always a great show and a fun night. Please try and keep the negativity to a minimum haha.

Should this be in the politics forum?

But, yes. I love it, I’ve not caught any of the songs yet. But I will over the next few days now I’m sure.

Maybe someone from fab should dairy s social out to go with the night. That would be great.

Hahaha you could definitely start a Eurovision thread in the politics section.

Someone hosting a social Eurovision party is a great idea though

I know there’s enough people out there that enjoy it, but I’m surprised how many people don’t. It’s only once a year, it’s wonderful entertainment on a spectacle level. And there are a handful of decent acts and songs.

There’s much worse in tv every bloody week!

Here’s hoping we do well now we’ve got some countries back in our side!

If I’m honest. I’m not really a fan. Never understand why we bother!

Even if we hypothetically sent the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, The Who, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Spice Girls, Oasis, Coldplay, Led Zep....... list goes on and on and on

We would still come last or second from last.

But I guess it’s the taking part that counts!

Love it! Sadly missed out on tickets, but thinking about making the trip down to Liverpool for the atmosphere.

Only heard a couple of songs so far (usually save it for the semi-finals to hear them for the first time). My pal let me hear one called "Unicorn" last night... not-so-subtlety hinting

I'd avoid Liverpool, unless you live nearby. It's going to be ridiculous to get in/out and everything is already being advertised at x100 its normal price

A friend managed to get a dorm room before they announced Liverpool. Was going cheap, so even if it was announced to be Glasgow he wouldn't have lost much for cancelling. Luckily hasn't been hit by the chancers cancelling bookings so they can resell at higher rates .

Massive Eurovision here as well

Been top of my bucket list to go to a live grand final and this year I get to tick it off

Me and the missus have loved Eurovision for nearly 30 years and living so close to Liverpool it’s a dream come true it’s here. Going to the Big Eurovision Welcome Party on Sunday and being a fan of Frankie and The Lightning Seeds just makes it even better!

As far as songs go I’m not a fan of ours but suppose if we don’t want to host it two years in a row the song is ideal

Absolutely love Loreen and beyond excited I’ll be seeing her live. Finlands has grown on me but theirs about five or six others that I really like. Just looking forward to the show and my excitement levels are through the roof haha

The UK should do well this year but there’s stiff competition- particularly from Norway!

I'm just annoyed that the uk has spent 31 million of tax payers money on this freak show.

These things should have a gofund me page so those that wish to contribute can.

Also if they are using our money to pay for it why are they charging people large sums of money for tickets, and does this ticket money come off the 31 million?

I am sure more than that will be collected in taxes from the trade the event brings. I am more worried about the significantly higher amounts wasted on other things rather than education, health and wellbeing, support for those in need and such like. No need to begrudge something for the arts and entertainment of the masses either. Yes it is still art even though it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Just because I may like my Shakespeare, I can also be fine with eurovision too or anyone who likes and supports it

Where are you getting that figure from? Liverpool council has spent £2 million which is significantly less than what you’ve quoted.

You may feel it’s a waste of money but this week alone the metro mayor for the Liverpool city region, Steve Rotherham, predicts it’ll bring in about £25m this week alone but that amount in the long term could be as huge as £260m for the region as a whole. Not to mention the incalculable boost it’ll give to the reputation of Liverpool.

You call it a “freak show” but theirs about 150 million “freaks” worldwide who absolutely love Eurovision, me included, and it’s more than just a few odd musical numbers. Appreciate its not for everybody, and theirs things you may enjoy that I don’t understand, but using terms like freak show is frankly extremely disrespectful and shows you have no idea what the true meaning of Eurovision is about

Huge Eurovision fans here

I thought the second semi-final was the weaker of the two and, apart from Austria, it was all a bit meh.

My faves going into the final are Austria, Finland & Israel.

Although it's hard to ignore Loreen and I think she could well win, Tattoo just doesn't have the anthemic vibe of Euphoria.

I really like the UK entry too but it's not as strong sung live as the recorded version

Ah love Austria and Finland but feel like Israel’s song is a bit cringey, especially the weird unicorn dance move haha.

I’m with you, that dance break in the middle is frankly ridiculous! Loreen was the long time favourite for me but after seeing him live and the running order for the final I honestly can’t see past Finland. Either way it’s going to be so close and I for one can’t wait to see them both battle it out live

Ours sounds awful live. Not really a fan of it anyway but after the clip we saw yesterday I’m fearing we’ll end up on the right hand side of the board.

I reckon Belgium could take the crown, it's an unashamedly queer Eurovision this year and I think yer man Gustaph has absolutely smashed that vibe. It's easily the strongest HI-NRG anthem we've seen on Eurovision for a few years.

"Huge Eurovision fans here

I thought the second semi-final was the weaker of the two and, apart from Austria, it was all a bit meh.

My faves going into the final are Austria, Finland & Israel.

Although it's hard to ignore Loreen and I think she could well win, Tattoo just doesn't have the anthemic vibe of Euphoria.

I really like the UK entry too but it's not as strong sung live as the recorded version

Ah love Austria and Finland but feel like Israel’s song is a bit cringey, especially the weird unicorn dance move haha.

Loreen has been favourite for a while now but you’re right, it’s not as good as Eurphoria.

Our song is great but again, as you say, it’s not great live.

Agreed. Finland is going to take some beating haha.

Also think we’ll finish on the wrong side of the board too because she just can’t seem to sing live. Bit of a step down from Sam Ryder last year, who could comfortably sing anything.

Contraversial opinion, but I didn't rate Sam Ryder at all. He's a perfecly capable singer, but not a particularly INTERESTING singer, and the song was kinda... unremarkabke. Inoffensive. A bit beige, you know? Nothing particularly wrong with any of it per se, it was just all a bit dull.

Yeah we weren’t huge fans of the song either. It done better than we expected. But his vocal range is incredible. With a better song he could win easily. Sounds like he could genuinely sing anything without much difficulty haha.

Heard this uk song sung quite few times live now and I'm afraid she can't sing live, check u tube her 2nd rehearsal, the vocals are not good. I think she's great but jeeeez whoever picks our entry can they not not listen to them live before picking a song from a studio recording, we had same problem with Gemini and Gina g singing live was a struggle. I think the Poland song will be top 5. Uk I worry for

I think Poland and Cyprus in with great chance (remember Greece will give Cyprus 12 points lol) uk top ten but can you bet against loreen do the double. If mae could sing live she would be right up there. I think they may of tweaked voting tomorrow meaning when they go to the country jury it will just go straight to the 12 points instead of them saying the 8 then 10 then 12, hope they don't change it though. Jury done there votes already tonight.

"Right, Eurovision fans; hands up everyone who watched Fire Saga tonight to get yourselves in the mood?

I was waiting for the wife outside the arena last night and now I’m unbelievably pumped for tonight. She went with our daughter to the jury final and we are going back again tonight for the grand final. She said the show was off the scale and their are a fair few surprise acts that, although average on tv, were amazing in there (told her no spoilers though)

I’m not an emotional guy but I genuinely think I might cry at some point tonight. I nearly went during the first semi final even though I was only watching it on tv (the start with the two kids dancing in the “mirror”) and the interval act was dangerous territory for a second haha

Been watching since Gina G strutted her stuff and been dreaming of going to a grand final ever since! The fact this is literally 5 miles from my house is still surreal and I’ve been counting down the days since it was announced. Today is going to be very special indeed

Wouldn’t say the best live, the Belgian guy was phenomenal as was a few others but for pure stage presence she’s definitely the queen of Eurovision.

Not sure how it came across at home but in the arena Finland were by far the most popular, can’t begrudge Loreen though because she was brilliant. That poor French girl lost he rag big style though and walked off at one point, smug bitch

It's just a bit of fun and all the quirky stuff, including the voting, makes it what it is. Ots not a serious talent cometition. It's a celebration of diversity. I was though surprised that France especially and one or two others did not do better than they did but not losing any sleep over it. Apart from staying up to watch it all till the end, that is

Sonia was totally conned of winning her year, the voting went all wrong had to come back to some countries and get there votes and she got zero points from last country whereas every country gave sonia points in the end lost out to Ireland. It was one of the biggest controversial voting ever.

I think a lot of acts were cheated last night, because almost every single song was a banger. There were a lot that would have got LOADS more points every other year. Germany were excellently mental, Croatia would have usually got a good bundle of points for being pure chaotic nonsense, Moldova had a dancing dwarf playing the flute in a giant mask, for goodness sake! Austria should have been huge contenders, Belgium should have been a huge contender, Czechia was a fantastic dramatic feminist anthem, and Australia was actually a genuinely great song! So many mediocre or actively crap so-called "hard rock" songs have done incredibly well in the past (I'm looking at you, Maneskin) that it sucked to see a really good rock song get so overlooked.

But there it is - the competition was so fucking strong this year that there were loads of acts that would have done extremely well almost ANY other year. It was a fantastic year for Eurovision tbh, I'm so glad I got to see it.

Have to agree with most of this but not sure about Croatia! I’m all for a bit of weirdness but they were bordering on the perverted at times, and not in a funny way. Not quite sure how they managed to get far more points than us, even if ours was a pretty ordinary song.

I think the fact that the jury voting was very much across the board (other than Sweden churning out 12’s constantly) shows why a strong competition it was. Save for the odd song most were brilliant, especially live, and you couldn’t really begrudge most of them getting big scores.

Still buzzing and will be for weeks but like you, so glad I was there to witness it live. I was hoping it would be everything I’d built it up to be and it ended being even better than I could’ve dreamt
