Such a palaver changing it in my car that I leave it on UTC all the year round.

As a worldwide communicator, I'm used to using UTC anyway. The hour change thought up by William Willett from Chiselhurst works moderately well and is not quite ready to be dropped.

I went to bed on Friday night at 11 and got up at 7. 8 hours sleep after a 16 hour day

Last night I went to bed at 11 and got up at 7. Because the clocks had gone forward at around 2am to 3am I lost an hour's sleep in the night, 7 hours sleep.

In the 'olden days' before alarm clocks and where there were no knocker uppers people would put nails in candles. As they knew how quickly the candle burned they knew where to place the nail so that it would fall out and wake them at the appropriate time
