Are Winkers Wankers?

Right, so I'm gonna start with a little rant.

What is the point of the Wink button?

Personally, I thought this was a good idea, it allows you to quickly register an interest, and for the other person to do the same.

And then, following this, I would send a message.

However, just recently I received a message in response to a wink which simply said "winks are boring" and they proceeded to block me.

So what I want to know is, are Winkers just boring wankers?

And if not, show your support by winking at somebody on here.

We use the wink function quite a lot! Just an easy way to see if there’s mutual interest based on profiles and pics

Carlisle usually

My homepage currently says 916 new winks.

They're pretty pointless in that respect.

We rarely look at winks and end up just bulk deleting them after a while.

I check out winkers profiles and if I want to chat to them I wink back! Messages I just delete as per my profile

People offended by an aspect of the site being used correctly, that's a reflection on them.

Winks can work brilliantly, if people see them for what they are.

I always check winkers

And I also love showing my appreciation with a wink sometimes, as after reading their profile i can see I'm not what their looking for but a wink is sometimes letting them know others appreciate them but don't need an answer or reply

I’ve said it before and I’ll happily say it again. I’ve no problem with winking, it exactly that, an “I like the look of you, come see mine” kind of thing.

Only problem I have is when the winker has a blank or hidden profile. What’s that all about

Not boring. But, I never check my winks. Ever. I've never winked at anyone either.

So it's a waste of time for some.

Did you read the profile first, maybe they said they don't like winks?

Winks do seem pointless though as people wink me and then go shy when I message them

Why on Earth would I add a superfluous wink to the other 467½ orphaned winks currently festering in your average woman's 'wink bucket'?

Personally I’ve had much more luck getting replies through a direct message rather than winks.

I also don’t receive many winks. So much prefer the message function.

Don’t mind a wink but we’re slightly bewildered when someone winks from a shadow avatar profile, no pics, no bio and 200+ miles away.

What’s the bloody point of that?

location varies

I wink if I’m not sure if I’m what the other profile is looking for. Otherwise I would send a message

If they wink back I’ll follow up with a message

If they don’t wink back, no harm done.

It’s gonna work for some but not others. I appreciate a wink (on the rare occasion I get one) I think they’re good for testing the water. If a wink elicits a reciprocal wink or a fab then I know there’s a fair chance a message will be positively received.

On the other hand if someone’s getting hundreds every day then obviously they’ll just be ignored.

Near Taunton Somerset

I’d rather receive a decent mail but being sent a wink is no different to receiving a crap one liner message that doesn’t really say anything about the person or what they’re looking for.

The issue for me, is when you click on their profile and that’s as equally crap and uninformative.

I can see why women view them differently to men. If they get loads, there is no information that can be gleaned and they have to make the effort to look and decide whether to respond. If they are getting a large number if messages also, wading through those is tiresome enough but at least they have some information, so less effort required for a quicker decision.

If a man gets a wink it's woo hoo!, regardless of the eventual outcome.
