To me it means function over attraction. Or the 'any holes a goal' mentality.

It has no bearing on the pickee as to their inherent value or worth or attractiveness.

Solely speaks to the judgement/standards the picker will hold themselves to for who they will choose to be intimate with regardless of holding any actual attraction or interest in the person they are fucking. I don't like you but you'll do.

I hate it to the marrow of my bones.

I think it is an insult of sorts and dehumanises the pickee and I have had to cut people off for behaving in this way. Can't be a friend to them as I would feel like it would condone it.

Standards to me feel like little tick boxes that every potential meet or even person that comes into your life would need to meet - it seems like your almost pigeon holing yourself to specifics and could be missing out on someone who is perfect for you and you didn’t even realise because they missed a few pre requisites.

I prefer to take people at face value and prefer people who take me this way also x

Yep.

Saying you have 'standards' implies some form of scale for everything from attractiveness, to height, to weight, to any measurable characteristic on a qualitative scale - which to me is far too rigid and functional.

I don't see decisions I make as being based on a standard. Just my tastes, ideas and notions of what I find appealing at the time, what I find visually attractive and the kind of personality I want to be around dependant on what I'm doing.

It's all fluid, not rigid.

I don't like the word myself. Not in relation to people anyway.

For me it’s not about standards in appearance. I fancy who I fancy and wouldn’t meet anyone I didn’t. I suppose if some had that approach but weren’t getting anywhere, they might look to meet those they don’t fancy “just to get some”. That could be seen as dropping standards. I have never done this and never will.

I absolutely have standards on how people conduct themselves on fab, through messaging/status updates or on the forums. They are never breached.

I think one “standard” most of us can agree on is sexual health.

I definitely don’t want to meet anyone that has an obsession with c*m, for example (that’s a common one on here).

Someone who has a fetish for others bodily fluids is at higher risk of a) having unprotected sex b) contracting and carrying various illnesses.

Refusing to meet those kinds of people one standard that I can confidently say is “better”. And I’m sure most would agree.

No matter how cock-hungry I am, I wouldn't meet someone I didn't actually like or fancy, someone I couldn't talk to or have a laugh with just for the sake of a fuck. I'd rather have a wank.

Exactly this! My standards aren’t a list of physical attributes but more how I expect someone to behave in how they message me. My standard for a meet is a social first. I absolutely do not open my front door and let a stranger in. That’s not a standard i’ll lower for anyone.

I’m tall at 6’1” so it’s unusual for women to be taller than me, even in heels. But I would have absolutely no issues with it, height isn’t a factor for me.

I have standards that I apply to myself, it's about what make me comfortable. How diligent I am at work, my appearance, how I present and conduct myself and interact with others.

I’m tall at 6’1” so it’s unusual for women to be taller than me, even in heels. But I would have absolutely no issues with it, height isn’t a factor for me.

Being able to hold a conversation is just as important a quality to me as being physically attractive.

More so in fact. I'll find myself attracted to someone who comes across as smart or witty even if their physical attributes don't fit my ideal mould, whatever that might be.

But the reverse is never true: I will just not be interested in a hot partner who comes across as ignorant.

Besides that, my hygiene and safety standards are high and complete dealbreakers.

I take each person as they come. They could be shortish or very tall! I've never had a particular type - I really do enjoy getting to know people on their own merits. Standards are somewhat immeasurable/cannot be compared as they mean different things to different people. Someone's 'high' standard could be another's 'low' standard. Also think 'dropping standards' just means your perspectives have changed and you're seeing things in a new way
