Many places I've visited have closed before the advertised time.

"Many places I've visited have closed before the advertised time."

If there aren't enough punters to cover the costs I guess it makes sense to close early?

Certainly in seaside towns where they rely on the tourist trade as well as locals its common place for things to close early.

Sure but it seems to be happening more than it use to be.

Yeah but I'm not talking seaside towns. I'm in the middle of Shropshire tonight and everything died before time.

That is so annoying after I plan a night out. I see this time and time again now.

I've noticed a lot of pubs closing a lot earlier than they used too, my local is even closing for good next month. The landlady said she just can't afford all the increases and the footfall just isn't there anymore, despite her regulars trying their hardest for her, just wasn't enough.

Wirral.

Yes, they are! Happened to me in Cheshire whilst meeting for a social last week. We'd literally just ordered our 2nd drink when they announced they were closing, at 9.15. Then hovered by us so we had no option but to rush out drinks & leave.

I get that it wasn't busy & costs are high, but she could have saved us the bother of the second drink

Friends place is around 3k a month for electric, estimated will go up to 7k-10k a month. Can see alot of business closing.

I was in a hotel bar recently where I was staying and the barman told me last orders were just before 11pm and at 10:20pm he pulled the shutters down.

Fair enough if it's quite but don't tell me 11pm and close earlier.

Maybe this should be a different thread but....

Closing earlier (I can understand if there are no punters)

But

Standard of service - decreasing

Quality of food - decreasing

Value for money - decreasing

Why?

Yes, I've seen this, especially mid week.

Should some bars just take turn not opening on one of the early mid week days? To save money.

I can't put my finger on it. I think it's a combination of things.

Most the places here are now opening 3/4 days a week at most and all shut before 10pm

. Increased energy costs can make it unprofitable to leave the heating and lights on in a half empty pub, so better to close early.
