When I wrote my profile, I stated I was a professional. Some other profiles state the same - for either gender - others don’t. But does it make a blind bit of difference to anyone who reads it?

Agree, it can help elude to the type of people they are. Good or bad it’s down to your choice.

Doesn't impress me.

It's explained as meaning many things to many people.

Those who take great pride in achievement. Those seeking a fellow University grad. Some think it shows they have a lifestyle to guard the privacy of more than others might do discretion is more guaranteed.

It all screams ego to me. I don't post my qualifications on here. They don't make me more or less fuckable or dateable.

To see your job as your identity or that it might indicate any particular positive personality traits is unreliable imho.

Beware folk in suits as much as any other on here. It's still just a horny man in the suit looking an easy shag.

That's my thinking.

If you can't be proud of your choices then perhaps you ought to rethink them.

Privacy is desired and expected when it comes to personal business and/or sex but feeling ashamed is a different thing.

I can think of two potential things that professional might mean that I can see being plus sides.

Intelligent - the word "professional" doesn't mean that, but it might be a snobby reference to that. You can show you're intelligent, self praise is no recommendation.

Financially solvent (and thus less likely to have drama* around that). I kind of assume that that's taken for granted and you shouldn't say it.

* Side note: "drama free" on a profile is a red flag to me. People doth protest too much! (Ditto easygoing etc - self praise is zero recommendation)

At least people who think it important can find eachother.

When I think professional I think Teacher, police officer, lawyer, where discretion is absolutely essential as they could lose their career.

Others use it as a measure of intelligence, or that they are people that move in similar social circles.

I'm not a professional myself,

Some people say they’re seeking “chav, scally, lad types” so I don’t see what the problem is to say you are, or are looking for, professionals. At the same time what does professional actually mean.

The people who say they’re professionals probably have an idea in their head of what it means to be a professional. A certain look, attitude, sophistication maybe? However that isn’t really true.

I recall someone saying they use professional to allude to more expensive social meets and therefore wouldn’t want to make other people uncomfortable. Not sure how much I agree with that either.

I think it's best to just write what you want. The people who think the same way you do will understand and the people who don't... won't.

The word professional causes so much angst when people use it though that I sometimes wonder what are acceptable ways to describe oneself.

I tend to assume it means white collar worker rather than blue collar worker. My only annoyance comes when they then go onto request discretion because they are a professional couple. Everyone deserves discretion no matter what job you do or even if you don't work.

Yes it's very important to me that I know you are a professional because it reminds me that you are above me because I am not a professional I am only an expert in baking freshly baked croissants and other sweet pastries but everywhere else in life I am not a professional and it is good to know that others are because I seek them out to shape my life and give me professional guidance because they are bigger and better than than me.

Being 'professional' automatically puts you in a higher stead to other people. Either consciously of subconsciously which in turn makes the 'professional' person presume they have more of a say on meets etc. At least, that's how we/I have witnessed it. Not to say that's how it is for everyone.

Professional and discretion also flies around together. Aren't most people discreet anyway? Being professional doesn't make you in any more need of being discreet.

It's no judge of their character or how discretely they may or may not behave, it's literally just their employment.

Arseholery infects all strata of society. Jeez just look at the royal family, politicans, etc. Professional disasters with no sense of dignity or decorum.

It does to other professionals who are looking for similar. If it’s puts some people off then you probably wouldn’t want to meet them anyway.

When I’m looking for guys to join for mmf etc I prefer professional men , might be biased but just feel safer

No they are not. I’ve heard stories of guys down the pub sharing photos of local married women they have met on here comparing stories etc.

I think professional people have much more to lose , professional reputation, career etc so are more discrete , careful and and less likely to do anything really dodgy on a meet

I would take it quite literally as written, that you were professional at being male. So thats like knowing how to chop wood and wipe a dipstick and open jars whilst smelling of lynx and all those other professional man tasks.

In reality it might suggest to me you wear very white shirts and neat pressed trousers and would have a small heart attack if I asked you to sit in my car, so may pass you over for that reason.
