So much discussion on football and the BBC etc. And yep, everybody is entitled to their own views but to be honest...

I don't care. I'm not that interested in football, they're all overpaid and opinionated and then it even finds itself here.

I will though be watching the six nations later and wondering if anyone else here is doing likewise. Obviously it's not blurred by the big money and celebrity opinions but it's a far more respectable, entertaining and decent sport that just doesn't get the coverage. So just wondered...

Although I personally find football incredibly boring and much prefer rugby, I DO understand that different people have different opinions and preferences... ultimately, people are totally allowed to be wrong.

No i won't be watching the rugby, i find all rugby boring and tedious but i love football and am a STH at Leicester.

I'm fine with both sports tho lean a lot more towards football. (I understand it more)

I don't like the dirty money in football and the level of debt. However I believe the oakyers should see the bulk of any money. As such they are paid fairly for their commercial value.

And I welcome players etc with influence having an opinion. It opens up debate. We bemoan players not being role models and then bemoan when they take a view of the world.

I’d have to say Rugby, I like both international and club rugby, and will often nip to a local game, have a beer in in a plastic glass while I stand in the mud wishing I was young enough to play again…

Football though, really only get excited about international games, never the club stuff

I'll watch all sports, apart from the American shite. Footy is my favourite, but love rugby for the respect the players have for the ref, and the hammering they take and just get up and get on with it. Swing low!

Wednesday night I replayed and incident in a football game that had the player rolling in agony, a hand near his face!

Thursday night I watched a rugby league player, in a tackle, clash, face to head with his opponent literally bursting his lip apart! The next 15 minutes was the player pouring blood, refusing to leave the field, engaging in tackles, wiping the blood from his face with a towel before changing shirts then when he was eventually sent from the field … stitched back together and on in the second half !

I like the skill within most sports though the character shown in rugby puts footballers to shame!

Well, in my opinion (LOL and that don't count much for jack crap), i think rugby is a really good game to play if you want to become a paraplegic..... I'm glad I never got the chance to play it!

Yes it does have it's elements of fun & excitement. I can see that. I will give it that.

I can't say I like it that much personally. However, I will watch rugby union & the 6 nations. I like most sports after all.

More of a football fan. Cyrille Regis & Stan Collymore being my personal faves.

I'm excited about watching Ireland v Scotland. Hope Ireland win!!!!

Not too bothered about England.

I don’t really understand rugby that well so don’t watch it. Football I just find quite boring.

But what I will say is I have nothing but respect for the rugby players. Those guys are ‘hard as nails’ so and so’s. They generally respect their opponents and the officials. Ofcourse some will point to ‘bloodgate’ etc but those kind of occurrences i would say are exceptions rather than the rule.

Football players on the other hand I generally have disdain for. All I see is who can con the referee the best over an hour and a half. Add in the ridiculous offside rules and VAR and it’s laughable. I would even go so far to say as I would watch ladies football over men’s as it’s played in more of a sporting spirit. A less ‘win at all costs mentality’.

I like and have played both, but am better at and prefer football. I follow club football in a way I don't club rugby, but will be enjoying the 6 Nations and whatever football I can see today.

I get tired of the football tropes to be honest: not all football fans are knuckle draggers, and not all rugby fans are chivalrous "genuine professionals"

The money in football does seem obscene but it's not the players' fault - it's all about supply and demand. But as for coverage goes, enjoy watching the 6 Nations on free-to-air while any football fans would need a subscription to watch a premier league match this weekend...

Didn’t he just… to be honest I think the sport in that case should look at itself…. He should have been removed earlier … but the character of the man! Wow!

Anyone who cares to … search Willie Isa. Off the field I had opportunity of a chat with him over Christmas at a club event and you couldn’t meet a more friendly, personable and humble guy!

I care very little for either really.

When it comes to the players as a whole, not individuals, rugby players just have my respect. The sports are different in their rules and structure but what a rugby player does on the field is above and beyond what a professional footballer player does. The respect they have for the game and officials without any theatrics is generally more in line with an actual sporting game.

Otherwise go! Be free! And enjoy the sport that you want to enjoy.

Not very watchable. Dont get me wrong. Ill watch it every week. Love it. But for armchair novices its too complicated. Laws are impenetrable. Tmo has made games last 2 hours now. Mostvrefs are now the centre of attentiin and influence outcomes way too much. Forward passes permitted. Crooked scrum and lineout feeds now allowed. Red cards for soft trivia while dangerous ruck clear outs carry on. Endless kick tennis. Big blokes just running into big blokes with no attempts at evasion and skill.... Some games are amazing. Most arent.

Exactly this i only watch international football now, British premiership football is owned by foreigners, run by foreigners and played by foreigners, cheating dominates it they fall over like feathers every 5 minutes.Rugby is an honest hard hitting exciting sport imo

this is my trouble too. I love a good game but have no idea what ahlf the rules are. Whatevers they are, it seems the players break them all the time... Tho i can't tell how intentional it is.

However I get many of the rules are to protect the players which is why I think there's more respect for the refs.

I will though be watching the six nations later and wondering if anyone else here is doing likewise. Obviously it's not blurred by the big money and celebrity opinions but it's a far more respectable, entertaining and decent sport that just doesn't get the coverage. So just wondered..."

I've never seen a football fan need to have a pop at rugby, there's plenty to have a go at but I suppose we don't feel the need to.

I've no interest in club rugby but I like the 6 nations and Lions - I've not seen a single game this tournament though.

If rugby is that great how come it's behind Football and Cricket in popularity then? It will never catch up with football but its ok, you can like both. Both are fantastic sports

Nope, you arent.

I love both.

I was brought up to love and play rugby union. And my dad also encouraged me to watch and enjoy rugby league too.

And i love footy too. But have zero interest in the Premiership.

Premier League football pays players the wages that it does simply because it's a multi billion pound industry, that needs to attract the very best players in the game in order to retain it's high standards in World football.

Sponsorship, Advertising, TV rights, dictates that some of the best footballers in the world need to be convinced to play in the Premier League....and that alone requires the very best footballing wages.

I'm from a Rugby playing area and have followed the game all my life. But I must admit the rules are complicated and difficult to understand refereeing decisions. The beauty of football is in it's simplicity. Both great games, but in different ways.

Sometimes it's a peer pressure thing, friends like it so you do to fit in initially. You can't really get away from it, you just like it by default because that's what you know. It's a culture thing for a large part. A way to fit in.

There are other reasons of course, hence why some of us don't like it despite what I said above. There are obviously other reasons people like it and are a part of its popularity.

I think Grandparents taking Grandkids to a match is only ever a good thing to keep the bloodline going, regardless of what team, what sport.

I love sport and football is just one of them, some times it's my favourite, sometimes it's hockey, sometimes it's cricket.

I've never felt the need to have a pop at a sport in a negative way though, eg, F1. I don't like it. Its repetitive and I find that boring.

Fair enough. I just leave it there. Its easy to avoid.

In a way yes, it can be considered a form of brainwashing. But that can be said about lots of things that get passed down through generations. In some cases it is forced, others they pick up the interest because it is just there.

For the most part as a society we tend to stick to the familiar. USA for example while it's growing in popularity there for sure. It is not and never will be the dominant sport, not even close, because it is not passed down the same way that American football, basketball, or baseball is. Compared to here, those sports don't have the same traction as football.

But it's starting to. It's been the dominant female sport there for decades, they have been the worlds best. They demand the same wages as the men.

It will take over. Why?

You need a ball, two jumpers for goal posts and off you go.

It's cheap for the PE Teacher to put on. Every young kid can find a place hear home to play after school. Its easy to fall in love with and find hero's to aspire to.

Even in club games, far less kit far less expense. Its one of the few sports successful in Africa.

It doesn't matter if Mum and Dad can't buy you the best kit - it really is accessible to all.

I rarely hear 'grass roots' being used in other sports but a lot take a lead from what football has tried.

It's the simplist of sports, it's still growing and getting better and I love what these big money clubs (where these snowflakes play) are doing for their local communities. Each and every one can show examples of how they help.

It's really important for our kids to play as many sports as possible

Its easy to be nostalgic about footy from the 70's and 80's.

But watching games on 'The Big Match Revisited' on ITV4...presented by good old Brian Moore. You realise it just wasnt as quality as you remember it.

And a few weeks ago i was looking at a Luton Town team photo from the early 70's.

Dave, Keith, Ron, a few Reg's, some Jimmys, a Bobby, Gordon, Brian, Harry, Pete, Steve and a few Johns.

Not a Mario, Pablo, Juan, Neymar, Diego or Cristiano amongst them
