Do women actually...

Exist, or is the whole thing a conspiracy theory?

I mean were they genetically engineered in a lab somewhere and accidentally released into the environment?

Are reports of actual woman sightings just a cryptozoological hoax?

Where's the historical evidence?

Full disclosure ... I think I saw one once. But it was dark, and visibility was poor. So couldn't properly authenticate.

I don't think so. I thought I heard a flock of them once but it was probably some seagulls spotting a chip.

I have seen many reported sightings such as this, but where is the evidence? Footprints, hair samples, nests, droppings, that sort of thing.

I read on the Internet, so it must be true, that women are actually alien lizard creatures seeking to take over the world....

The historical evidence for the existence of women is reasonably sketchy. If you take the historical texts at their word, women were a relatively rare and obscure beast, mentioned infrequently at all, and even less frequently by name.

In some cultures you would find female names used as a pejorative, and constructs such as "wife of" "sister of" "daughter of". It is not always clear whether these entities were genuinely women, or whether in the distant past there were non-human entities which fulfilled the functions of breeding and societal acceptability, while also chewing up resources and sometimes weaving when babies weren't being spat out. I'm imagining a sewing machine with an incubator.

Sometimes these entities malfunctioned and didn't produce a son. Fortunately many of these cultures had a mechanism to deal with the results of these malfunctions, called "exposure".

Weirdly, celebrity did not seem to result from this, nor lots of clicks.

I know legend speaks of one that launched a thousand ships, but I think the story is allegorical. Highly unlikely in reality.

If they ever existed, why are there no fossils?

It's actually quite surprising, that most of the very famous women named in very ancient texts likely did not exist in any meaningful form.

Most of the historical evidence to back that particular story up is, like... a civilisation existed with commonalities across a few different settlements. A lot of the details - the use of chariots, for example - is clearly and factually wrong.

Apparently I am a woman. I'm very shocked. I thought I was a guy with big moobs.

I drink beer, eat curry and kebabs, work security, wear suits, swear and fart. I can't be a woman. Please tell them they are wrong.
