Beef Madness

Chelmsford

Reports that beef made in South America has reached our supermarkets and has been falsely labelled as British beef. Beef experts have said that this is not a food safety issue but is a fraud issue.

Toms solution. Just call it beef wherever it comes from. Surely cows do not realise whether they are British or South American.

It's all over the news

It wasn't so long back they found our beef was actually being mixed with horesmeat in France so things are improving

Can’t believe nobody has commented that it’s all over the mood yet? What’s going on here folks?

One of the rare instances where the label hides a higher quality product.

South American beef puts British beef to shame.

Rubbish! Local raised and slaughtered beef is far better to eat and for the planet (although may be biased as my son farms Linc's Reds)

Its quite a moooving story. Reminds me of the Findus memes a few years back.

Let's face reality, there's scammers in every industry and corruption hinders regulation.

I'd bet my fave telletubbies onesie and sock set that Russian oil is diluted in UK fuel pumps somewhere.

That is so far from the truth. British beef is produced to some of the highest standards in the world and has exceptionally high welfare standards for the animals too. If you rather eat meat products that are pumped full of steroids then shame on you.

Some of the best beef in the world comes from Argentina. Wouldn't need to falsely advertise it as British for me to want to buy it!

I worked in the Merchant Navy for many years and quite often on the South America routes bringing beef and horsemeat from Brazil and Argentina back to Europe and the UK.

The quality of Argentinian beef has akways been second to none, It's a fabulous product and I'd argue, much superior to any British product.

Years ago, many of the cattle farms in Argentina were owned by Brits and these same people had their own ships to transport the meat back to the UK, Houlder Brothers Shipping was one such company.

In summary, absolutely no need to label Argentinian beef as British.

It’s wrong I’m a beef farmer and a sexy one ha ha we have to do so much to

Prove our beef is safe farm examination welfare inspections are cattle are in on clean bedding feed farm grown crops which have to be inspected and graze out side in the in the summer I’m proud of what we do and would show anyone our cattle. I’ve eaten our own beef and soooooooo much better than what you would ever buy out of a shop proud of that to it was melt in your mouth with a bit of fat on too lush. And I don’t make much profit!!!!!! All this for supermarkets!!! See they abroad do nt have any inspections and use old knackered cows poor welfare and use drugs to them alive which are band in the uk !!!!!!!!! And it’s getting sold over here as British so unfair rant over

"Argentinian beef is far superior than any beef that comes from the UK or Ireland......in my opinion "

You need to define superior really.

The main reason that meat is labelled with its country of origin is so that consumers have a choice and knowledge of the animal welfare standards that the meat was raised under and some information about the distance travelled to acquire such meat (the "food miles")

Buy British beef or locally produced beef where you can. Support our farmers, they're having a rough time with cheap imported produce and need all the help they can get.

Tom, either you are not buying quality or you are not cooking it properly, it’s all in the stews
