Talking to a number of colleagues today, and everyone said they dislike their job, to varying degrees. Given that we spend the best part of our lives in the workplace, just out of sheer curiousity, how many folk on here like/dislike/hate their job?

I can turn up relentlessly and take the money at the end of the month without too much trauma but can think of lots of things I'd rather be doing for 50-odd hours a week

With all the jobs I have had, each has elements that I did not enjoy, same with the one I have now.

However, the portion of my current job that I like outweighs the portion that I do not enjoy by a very big margin.

Not very keen on the job i do, but have tried to get away from it over the years but like any trade is always good to fall back on, but what i do like is the male enviroment, due to living in a house full of kids and women lol and the work banter is brilliant, it pays my bills and keeps the mrs happy, so im beginning to realise its the best job i have lol

After talking to collegaues i get the impression that the stress is overspilling into their private lives, unfortunately. And they feel trapped. It would be easy to simply tell them to look elsewhere, but what with the current climate things aren't that simple i guess

We both have jobs that we enjoy. Having done jobs that I have loathed to the point of becoming ill having a job that I never bore of is great. And even though the nature of the work can be upsetting and I on occassions work ridiculous hours, the fact the work is fascinating and I work with great people is more than enough to offset the downsides.

I have to keep reminding myself of the benefits of my job compared to what I used to do. Okay, I'm not earning a huge wedge, but it's a lot better than an awful lot of other people are managing to do at the moment. Plus I am literally my own boss, so no one to tell me what to do... apart from all me customers... Gawd bless 'em...

One sad fact i have noticed in my place, a lot of youngsters with bloody good degrees are doing jobs they are woefully overskilled for. I fully appreciate that a job is a job, and we should be thankful for it. But, it must be very sad to spend years studying to end up wih a job they could have obtained before getting thousands of pounds in debt with their student loans. And it also seems that given that the retirement age is going up and up, where will all the up and coming youngsters go in the future?

After twenty odd years in farming ( which progressively became worse as a job ) I have been a postman for ten years and enjoy my job.

I am also a union rep (unpaid) which has its moments bu

t I enjoy that also.

I was complemented in how well I do my job by a guy in a great big house , he said something on the lines of that I was a true professional , I laughed and said despite my education and aspirations all I have ended up is a postman.

He said do you see your kids because i don't , they are in boarding school and when they are home I am working , do you see your wife because I barely see my wife both her and the kids are incredibly expensive and I have to work constantly to pay for them all , I am jealous of you .

Made me think .

I would agree with what the guy told you. Read somewhere that there were a lot of doctors turning their back on their profession as they couldn't cope with the stress. Sure, you may get paid well, but what is important at the end of the day

It's very true. I doubt anyone on their death bead ever wished they'd worked harder and spend less time with their loved ones. And I realise that that is a very simplistic statement but way too many people have the work/life balance way out of line.

Our new manager started today. Yesterday (Sunday) he sent us all an email asking us what we did 35 hours a week as if to justify our jobs. Today, I decided he just didn't know what we did and wanted to find out. I found out he has dandruff. I mostly like my job, better than the last one, won't be as good as the next one.

I love my job. Its where I wanted to be after a good few years of retaining. It is extremely rewarding and every day I feel I've made a difference. It is very stressful though so not a job where I can take it easy and switch off. I would be bored silly if I had a nice easy role

two kids in uni one in final year - this has been talked about a lot over the xmas hols - me i love my job - heaps of job satisfaction but pay is crap = cant haveit all ways

We are all in charge of our own destiny and no matter how many excuses we may choose to air, ultimately we can do whatever we want and need to secure our own happiness.

There is no excuse for a fully grown adult to waste their life away in a job that they dislike. By the time you add in the time getting ready for work, travelling to work, coming home from work and moaning in your own time about work - to the actual hours you spend at work...... You are wasting your precious life away.

No excuses - we all have our own lives in our hands and can change anything and everything - it just takes the will to do so.

I wish I had a job to love or hate - been unemployed, actively seeking work, since I moved in July - got a letter on Saturday telling me that I will no longer be getting jsa as they only pay for 6 months - because the OH works, I won't get a penny - they're not interested that I'm still paying the mortgage on my other property until I can rent it out. I'm also trying to support my son in college and have been sending him money each month - had to send him a text telling him I can't pay next months

I don't dislike my work. I love my customers and I love the people I work with (most of them anyway).

I, however dislike the low pay, the crap hours, only finding out my shifts 3 days before I do them, and I dislike how people in the service industry are just treated badly.

However, I am working towards a degree that will hopefully enable me to find my true calling, until then, the job is ideal.
