Someone needs to raise their hands and say we won’t stand for state sanctioned racism. Can’t believe the only person in a position of influence brave enough is football commentator.

In the 70s and 80s they had the punks, the hippies, the minors, working class people.

Now we love for what?!? Who is standing up for the majority of us? The government only stand for division, whose side are they actually on? Hs2 cancelled, levelling up, don’t make me laugh, child care whatever, schools nope, police I don’t think so, army what army, nurses? Stop that’s enough now, I would like my vote now please

Fair play to Gary for going after these Tory Cunts, comparing them to Nazi Germany is OTT but I see what’s he getting at they have racist/facist ideology. The BBC let Gary go in on Qatar and their human rights issues therefore only right they let him speak on human rights here at home?

He hasn't compared them to the Nazis, he's rightly said that there is similar language being used by Braverman on this issue that the Nazi party used to demonise the Jewish people at that time..

I support freedom of speech which is one of the 5 freedoms of expression. As a result we have the freedom to voice our opinions of someone elses voiced opinions through discussion. To simply brush someones opinions off with labeling and demonising people without discussion or thought often shows a limited ability to eveolve ones own opinions. Those with limited ability to address others opinions tend to be the ones that follow the crowed mentality.

The thing is he's speaking for himself, not for the BBC. I can separate the two. I don't think that just because he works for the Beeb there are certain opinions he can no longer express. It's not like he is passing comment on a subject in his professional field (no pun intended). It's not like a newsreader doing this.

"Football commentator has an opinion on politics" is not really a controversial headline in my opinion.

I think it's only newsreaders who are meant to be impartial although I could be wrong. It's more to do with who's in bed with who. I mean Alan Sugar (bearing in mind his role in the BBC) once said if Corbyn ever gets in as pm he'd leave the country. He was very open about this. Funny that the papers and BBC didn't pull him up on that.

He was not texting in his role as a person who happens to be on the BBC.. he was doing it as a private citizen and the right wing media decided to go after him…

Him talking about human rights abuses in Qatar was fine, but him talking about human rights and international law violations in the uk?… way over the line!!!

I don't think he's gonna lose anything - does no-one here think that if there was something in his contract, they'd have enforced it already? 3 days on, and nothing except a severe talking-to (allegedly)...remember, he referred to the LANGUAGE used by Braverman, just as Joan Salter did. "Good for him. He's not a political journalist, so there should be absolutely no censoring of legally good communication.

A disgusting government move, condemning others to illegal restrictions and lack of decent support and care. The majority of the UK are decent and deserve better to be done in our name.

And if you are a journalist and then make political comments then surely you become a political journalist ..."

Is Gary lineker a political journalist?…. He is a freelance who happens to do work for the BBC and tweets as an individual

If he had said what he has said on BBC tv, then that would be a different story….

What people are saying is that famous people aren’t allowed to have opinions… and make those opinions public…

It’s Gary Lineker this week… two weeks ago it was carol vorderman calling people in government who profited from covid!

He is being demonised for speaking his mind

Braverman saying he caused upset cos her husband is Jewish

Fucks sake

He didn't at any point mention Jews or The Holocaust

He merely drew a comparison between current Government plans on asylum and policies in 1930's Germany

I don't think he is wrong to draw that comparison

The Government are leasing us down a dangerous path

I admire anyone who questions that path regardless of their standing in society

Saying he is unable to have an opinion on politics because he is a sports commentator is an absolute nonsense

If you stop people in the public limelight for speaking out on the BBC about anything political on their social media accounts then ban Alan Sugar and his tweets for the Tories, ban Attenborough for his views on climate change, their would literally be no one left.

The BBC is funded by the public. Therefore it should be the public who have the say. Not the corporation who has employed peadophiles

"Fair play to Gary for going after these Tory Cunts, comparing them to Nazi Germany is OTT but I see what’s he getting at they have racist/facist ideology.

"

I agree 100%

"The thing is he's speaking for himself, not for the BBC.

Agreed. I think politicians are making it bigger than it need to be. The more they try to shut him down the more attention they bring to the topic (which ironically is exactly what they don't want lol)

Good on all of them for standing up and doing the right thing.

Amazing that those who make the most noise about cancel culture and freedom of speech don’t see to have much to say about either of those things now

"If the guy wants to play politics then give up the day job and stand to be an MP, will soon see if the plebs agree with his views."

Surely we can have political views without having to become an MP.

No studio…no pundits… looks like the players may not be doing post match interviews.. and it looks like the MOTD commentators have said they are not doing it either…

So be prepared to not have a clue who no.23 is playing for Bournemouth when he scores a worldie!

He's a freelancer and using his own private Twitter account. He was not speaking on behalf of the BBC, he was speaking on behalf of himself, in his own time, on a non-BBC platform.

There is no conflict here and I hope he takes legal action against the BBC for cessation of contract.

I hope this opens the flood gates for more celebrities with Twitter accounts to get involved politically. Wall to wall political discussions on all forms of media from all people is healthy.
