Reports that a landowner in Dorset will bring in an annual £60 charge to walk dogs on the Estate. If rich landowners are feeling the pinch then what chance the common man.

It's all over the news

Some reports that this is part of the Mountbatten family, formerly the Battenburg family and actually linked to the famous battenburg cakes

£60 a year! That's cheap.

I will happily pay £15 or so an hour for a private use of a field to walk my dog. Worth it for total privacy, especially after my dogs operation and I needed to exercise him in a controlled environment. Good for rehabilitation training as well because I limit the dogs he interacts with

Less than 20p a day. Sounds a bargain. I know one landowner who doesn’t charge but they ask people to keep their dogs on leads in certain areas. One time he came across a dog off lead where it shouldn’t be and when he spoke to the owner, the man attacked him.

I’d pay that if I knew I wasn’t going to see shedloads of others walking their dogs at the same time as me. I just want to walk my dogs somewhere quiet and scenic, with no dog related dramas.

Covering the cost of having to pay someone to pick all the black plastic strange fruit from his trees and bushes.

Devon

It’s actually down here in Devon. It’s a Mountbatten who is a second cousin to Charles. It’s a great idea . The fee also gives you discounts at the cafe on coffee etc. it’s a gorgeous area and I and loads of other people don’t mind. £1 a week for beautiful unspoilt countryside. As far as I’m concerned it’s a win win.

If you don’t want to pay, then don’t use it. Simple

Pity it's not £50 for dogging! I'm sure he'd make more money.

I’ve never understood this behaviour. Why would you take something that will decompose put it in something that won’t, and throw it in a tree

The mr

I pay £10 an hour for a private fenced field so my 2 girls can run and play without worries of other dogs charging at them and it's making their recall training so much easier and as someone else said if you don't wanna pay then don't use it.

I guess some people love their animals more then others do.

Don’t see it being any different to paying to access a dog park. We have several round here that require a subscription to use.

I don't think that's a bad price at all if you want to walk your dog on private land. I'd happily pay it, it would mean less people I'd have to bump into.

Sounds a recipe for disaster, Tom.

Definitely no cost of living crisis for the dog owners on this forum, going by the comments.
