Being an agency worker, would I have to use my agency as a reference and not the supervisor of where I'm working?

Either and most can't give a bad reference but the can refuse to give one so ask first.

But they *can* give an honest reference

OP, I'd say get a reference from the people you were actually doing the work for rather than the agency.

As you are employed by the agency they are the reference. You could ask your work supervisor but they cannot confirm your employment details.

You could ask your supervisor if they would give you a personal reference.

If you work for an agency, they are your employer. They would be your most recent/current employer. However, you can still also use the company in which you were placed.

If there are any issues, anyone can give a honest reference, however, most now, tend to just give dated references.

It also depends on the reference request what questions are being asked.
