Tomorrow morning...ok maybe midday I'll be making the time honoured egg banjo.

How do you do yours?

White thick doorstep bread, buttered, egg fried in oil so it just starts to crisp at the edges but the yolk is still runny.

Pinch of salt.

Perfection..........

Is that not just an egg sandwich?

Why is it called a banjo?

Army slang, eat one with a runny yolk and you end up wiping your shirt like George Formby playing the banjo.

For years the millitary used to leave a hotplate and eggs, bread, Marge and both types of sauce out alongside the brew kit.

somewhere nice

I’m from any army background and I’ve always known them as egg banjos.

For me, thick bread, real butter, tomato ketchup and I bust my yolk as I don’t like the egg dripping on me, but of salt n pepper

So do you pop the yolk while cooking or while putting on the bread?

Funny, just mentioned Egg Banjos on another thread. Those were the days.

I suppose these days it is all healthy living.

I do love a fried egg sarnie - yep, gotta be white think buttered bread. The moment of the yolk breaking is up there with an orgasm IMO!

Never heard it called a banjo though but then I’m not in the forces.

Haven't had one for years but used to make one with the white bread fried not toasted, fried egg still sizzling hot, slice of cheese on top that instantly starts to melt, red sauce, top slice on, sandwiched all together

Magic

Banjo is right

Thickly sliced fresh white sourdough bread with lots of butter, two fried eggs with runny yolks and a pinch of salt. Enjoy!
