topic!

I have been there myself, going off at a tangent on somebody else's thread. Not necessarily deliberately, just sometimes an idea pops into my head which strictly speaking does not belong into that particular thread.

Are you guilty of doing so? And why do we do it? Do we not read the question properly? (That happens to me as I am neurodivergent and as such I am prone to sometimes miss detail)

Should we stick to the topic or is it ok to hijack for example with humour?

Threads are like conversations, sometimes the subject changes, sometimes they go off on tangents.

True!

I guess it feels different because we have the record of the conversation rather than relying on the memory of what was said before.

Perhaps it is a slightly different etiquette - in a conversation we would possibly state something like "just changing the subject for a moment" or something?

It's like heading out on a walk you've not done before. You might meander round a bit, get a few surprises but you find out all kinds of interesting stuff on the way..x

.

Erm...

I don't know. See, I think it's fine most of the time - conversations naturally have multiple tangents, I like the interactive element of that. If it goes on for several posts, it's best to take it private.

Sometimes I think it's rather silly and a tad unfair to the OP - in particular if a poster is new and more often than not a single man, a jokey tangent post as the first reply sets the tone. And then the thread becomes a pisstake. Which sometimes can be very funny, like a few threads I've read recently or unfair - the Op clearly gets a bit upset.

Also, neurospicy? Brilliant. The best people are.

So really picking up on cues other people give within that conversation.

That makes a conversation really interesting and diverse - one the other hand things may not get resolved.

That is how I feel sometimes that somebody asks a question and gets slaughtered even though it is in good humour most of the time.

Sticking to my analogy you might take little detours to see something or do something... but you will ultimately get to your final destination. Obviously on here there isn't necessarily a final destination but the journey is usually fun

I go where I want, post what I want.

As long as it’s within forum rules, people have a choice to ignore or pass over your comments as they see fit.

Some topics deserve to be railroaded because the post or poster is delusional!

It depends on the topic.

The op could post about their particular experience with something but I may have been in a similar scenario with completely different experiences and I could describe those with the full intention of staying on point.

Someone else sees something they can relate to in my post rather than the op and they elaborate on their own personal experience and suddenly we are at 90 degrees to where we started.

Things can slightly go off topic but still meaning to be on the topic if that makes any sense with other thoughts or humour. What I don't understand are those who literally have their own conversation on a thread, take it to private messaging!

I do sometimes. I don’t think we owe any explanations , it’s kind of a free for all place with minimum rules about that kind of thing.

Sometimes people hijack a thread to flirt, or grab attention, make a joke, threads are started by ridiculously people about ridiculous things It’s all good

Depends on the thread topic. There have been serious topics such as about bereavement, where people were sharing very personal, heartbreaking stories. Some people took over the thread flirting with each other.

Yeah it's a sex site but fucking hell!!!
