8 years in a male prison, maybe they should send him back to a female prison where they can scratch his eyes out

Yes they have separate sex offenders wings (doesn't matter what sex offence it was)

local, but not too local

I would imagine they’ll be at significant risk of violence from the other inmates. Do the prison service take that sort of thing into account?

Aside from the horrific offences committed, this case I fear has done huge damage to the whole Trans rights cause.

My suspicion (albeit with no direct knowledge) in this case is that Bryson's transition was tactical. Now if I think that from my perspective you can be damn sure it will have fuelled the fire for trans haters/deniers up and down the country.

I do think, however, that imprisoning a convicted rapist in a women's prison would be hugely insensitive regardless of the gender of the offender at the time of conviction.

Segregation decisions will be based on the totallity of risk, not based purely on offence category

Do you think she genuinely wanted to transition and this was the catalyst?

My gut feeling was probably not. It would seem no desire to do so was communicated until after they were charged with those offences. I don't know, obviously, none if us do but it's just an uncomfortable feeling.

I'm also of the mindset that it was a tactic to get a lighter sentence, he was married and his ex wife has said numerous times that he'd never previously mentioned transitioning.

I'd guess he's in for a hard time wherever he ends up which obviously won't be Cornton Vale

I'm glad that this individual has been put in a male prison. Sending a penis-owning r*pist to a woman's prison is like sending an armed robber to prison with a shotgun. Personally, I think all r*pists should have their dicks cut off anyway.

I agree it was tactical and that it has done immense damage.

I do however wonder if it could lead to better laws if the lawmakers take into account the fact that people will abuse them in this way. The reality is that laws have to deal with how people are and not how we want them to be. What those changed laws would actually be - I have no idea but the current ones don’t seem to be able to handle the fact that it is people at the extremes who will test them the most.

Fully agree. Tactical ploy to have a lighter time of it. Orchiectomy (removal of balls) can be done as an outpatient. Might have an effect on his libido and make his transition more believable to other trans.

I use he in this case on purpose.

I don't believe Bryson had undergone any surgery, but was apparently on hormone therapy
