I got an iPhone 12 Max Pro. Keeping hold of it for as long as possible, cannot justify £100 a month for the newer iPhone.

iPhone 6

Have replaced the battery 4 times but it’s a great phone. Will replace it eventually but no rush, it still does everything I need it to and more.

Can’t believe people pay like £50-60 a month on a contract. I pay £4.80pm for 2gb and unlimited calls

I updated my iPhone in 2021 because my previous one nearly exploded 5 days after the original lockdown, turns out it was the new battery Apple installed swelled up and pushed the phones casing open, after it was fixed it died about 9 months later. I have the iPhone 2020 SE and a sim only contract for £11 a month. I’ll be keeping it until there’s no more updates for it and beyond til it refuses to work. Then I’ll see what there is.

Iphone 14, got it through my son's work place. I've also the iphone 10 which I actually prefer to the 14. Many androids nowadays are on a par if not slightly better than iphones but for security, iphones can't be beaten

I've a Samsung Galaxy S22+. I recently upgraded from a Galaxy S9+, which was having a bit of trouble with the USB/charging port not holding the cable. Wireless charging was fine, though.

I've done a factory reset on that and gifted it to a work colleague as a first phone for her daughter.

A knackered Huawei, in the process of finding a new one before this one dies completely. Have had it about 3 years though so it's done well.

I was using a Samsung s8 until about a year ago when i tried to install the nhs scotland covid app for traveling and found out I couldn't as my phone was too old. That wasn't enough to prompt me to upgrade but finding out that it was no longer up to date with security patches was. Now have the Samsung s20 so I'm covered for a few years

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max… I normally upgrade it every other year, but couldn’t be bothered this year and there wasn’t the improved in the phone big enough for me to do so….

If the 15 does come with the changed charger or the rumours of the wireless charging only, then I’ll swop

Apart from a supposedly better camera, have there really been any significant improvements in the last 15yrs?

I’m on apple. I always buy a refurbished ‘phone outright. At the moment an 8 is fine. I want something that’ll fit in a pocket after all.

I might reconsider if call quality, battery life and reliability of network service was significantly increased.

My recollection is that with each supposed improvement in handsets an increased demand is placed on the network, swamping it and worsening communication. Especially now everyone tries to send each other 20megapixel nudes all day

Naaaah, when images are sent over the network they’re compressed somewhat so as to avoid congestion. But speeds these days help somewhat alleviate the problem.

I have an old Samsung (released five years ago I think). After reluctantly being made to bid farewell to my Note 3 last September (that gives an idea about how much I hate replacing my phone). I'll get a new one in a decade.

Another Samsung because I'm so original and freethinking.

Great minds think alike, although I am still dawdling with a one plus one.

I keep getting nagging texts from the mobile company - we are going to shut down the 3g network you Luddite

Not bought one in a good 4 yrs, I got into a lot of debt in my 20's paying 5 or 6x my tariff due to lack of cross network calls. Things have moved on but I've always bought them outright since, trying to find a half way decent one that would last.

Reading

A local news item last night on tv. Vodafone are switching off 3G network in local area next month. Also all areas by end of 2023. Other networks are going to do similar but dates vary. Basically from the interview last night. 3 out of ten people could be affected on Vodafone. Vodafone representative basically said people will need to upgrade their phones.

Yeah, you will need a 4g ready phone.

Hopefully they boost the 4g signal, cos I can't get 4g at home, only outside.
