The yorkshire side of my family have it as a starter. And it can function as a starter, side, or even the bulk of a main course.

I wouldn't be surprised if some have it as a dessert, but that doesn't seem to be how or why it started.

The yorkshire side of my family have it as a starter. And it can function as a starter, side, or even the bulk of a main course.
