Is world peace achievable?

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Obviously not at the moment, with the likes of Putin + co.

But could there be a world wide event that forces the nations on earth to unite in peace and security.

A massive terrorist attack.

A new virus worse than Covid.

Something that threatens the world's financial economy.

Just something I've been thinking about.

No! Not a chance.

I am far from well informed on this kind of thing, but from what I can make out it will be impossible due to differences in faith, centuries-old land disputes and good old common-or-garden fanaticism.

But what if the economy is hit so bad, or a disaster, so that all the defence spending is needed elsewhere, thus forcing peace + security?

It's sad to think it would take the anilation of the human race maybe viral from the planet to stop the ideological confrontations and greed that consumes mankind, and now with the reliance on nuclear power, what would happen to all those power stations unattended. Would anything survive?...

No never. No matter how you try to enact "peace" it will always conflict with others ideals and views. The only true world peace would be "peace" enforced on to others by a dictatorship, which of course is not peace, but it is order.

For peace you need order and chaos balanced to truely be free to be peaceful.

Colchester

No, of course not.

Because any "organism" with a prime directive to survive will single-mindedly follow that purpose at all costs.

Primate, invertebrate, virus, whatever. All are genetically programmed to survive.

We may have the ability to cooperate, as do many animals, but if the human race wants to survive, it must elevate its needs first and maintain those needs at that level.

I would expect an alien civilisation to do the same. The ones we meet will be the apex survivors of their own worlds. And just as on our world where war has driven innovation, invention, medicine, science and lots of other technological progress, I would expect the same with other civilisations.

You could argue that they may have progressed in to a more peaceful stage by the time they encounter us.

However I'd posit that if they are reconnoitring the universe which is incredibly hostile, their still in an "expansionistic" phase, and their vanguard will be military based.

So no. I don't expect humans will ever be "peaceful". Not do I expect visitors from other worlds outside our own to be either. It's just the way it is.

Yes with women in charge and men not allowed near top positions in companies nor positions of power.

Women generally are better organised, more rational, maternal, wise. Not all but most women I know are more organised than the average man. Plus I don’t think two women would nuke each other, men like myself think with their penis
