"We went to the last Erotica to be held in Manchester,it was fantastic,as was the Erotica Ball afterwards. On the strength of that we told others about it and went,as a group, the next year to London. What a disappointment, both the show at Olympia and the ball at Club Canvas,Kings Cross. It was terrible,we were so embarrassed to have taken friends. Never again! XXXX" out of curiosity what was so bad about it?

XXXX out of curiosity what was so bad about it?" The exhibition itself was lacking in atmosphere and not a patch on the previous year in Manchester. The Ball was held in what appeared to be an old railway warehouse near Kings Cross Station. The venue was called Club Canvas and with good reason, the missing roof had been replaced with canvas! Punters also had to queue outside to leave their coats in a large tent,it was snowing at the time and bloody freezing. The only difference in temperature between being inside or out was the wind chill factor. At Manchester, everyone was warm, friendly and chatty. At London if you tried to strike up a conversation with anyone they just looked at you as if you were speaking Swahili or something. They all dressed the part and talked the talk (among themselves) but certainly didn't walk the walk. It seemed many just used the event as a "Lets Pretend" fancy dress party, and were probably scared to death if someone spoke to them about BDSM or fetishes of any sort. As a footnote,we attended the Skin Two North Fetish Ball in Leeds last July 4th. There were many people from the London area there and one of the comments we often heard from Southerners was "Its great, everyone talks to each other and its really friendly". It must just be the old "Everyones friendlier up North" thing. Who knows? It certainly seems that way.
