A friend of mine only ever received flowers from her husband when he had been unfaithful, she hated getting them. I suppose it's the intent behind the action that counts.

True. If they're a 'I just thought they were pretty and you'd like them' gift it's a very different thing to a guilt gift.

Flowers are at their best in their natural habitats. Alive in the garden and contributing to the natural ecosystem. Too much money is wasted for people using them as adornment rather than simply enjoying them

I hate receiving flowers. Hubby loves sending me big bunches for anniversaries and birthday which is a lovely gesture but tbh I find it a waste of money.

Ive also found I'm severely allergic to lillys. I get terrible allergic reaction where i struggle to breath and have irritated chest

last few times hubby bought flowers for me. Ended up with terrible me chest infections so not only waste of money but damaged my health lol.

So I hate flowers lol

I love flowers, in the garden (mine or other peoples, in the park, wildflowers in fields and hedgerows and even cut flowers in a vase. Mostly I buy my own (but not in Winter as they don't last very long when the heating is on).

My girlie (Jan aka Princess Pussy) bought me red roses for my last birthday - that was the only time I've ever got them, although Rain did sprinkle rose petals on the bed on our first valentine day (LOVE)

I have bought flowers for my ex and also for some females who I am close vanilla friends with, normally for birthdays or Xmas, and they were normally well recieved.

I also am friends with a couple in USA, who are swingers like myself. I bought her flowers once for her birthday and nearly ruined the friendship as her hubby felt buying flowers for her from me was too personal. Fortunately he accepted that I'd got them simply as a gesture of friendship and he had no problems when I sent her some wicked weasal undies for her birthday the following year...

Therefore, for the couples on here, if you had become friends with a single swinger guy, and he bought your wife/partner flowers for a thing like a birthday, would you consider that overstepping the mark, or not think anything of it.

I'm very cliché-I love red roses with the small white flower (gypsy-something...?!) sprayed throughout.

If I'm ever lucky enough to get a garden of my own I would love to fill it with as many different coloured flowers as I could to make it look pretty and happy!

I love flowers. My favourites are white lilies as I love the minimalistic beauty of a lily.

My walls at home are all cream and I have beige carpets or laminate so its all very muted. Sometimes I will buy the brightest flowers in contrast. This isn't very often though as I mainly have white lilies.

I do like flowers as a gift. I don't get them regularly but neither would I want to because it would become very samey and nothing special.

I really dislike plants and I would hate to be given a plant instead of flowers

Nope, i don't do flowers. Never sent any to the mrs, but just so i don't get called a misery i did once send to her work a huge gift boxed balloon. When she opened it is was layered in sweets and confetti before the balloon rose up on a ribbon. (i'm not all misery, just hate bloody flowers.)

I've always been with guys who had the opinion of "What's the point? All they do is die", but it's the sentiment of it. As women, we LIKE flowers, they stimulate the senses (smell nice, look pretty, ect) and I suppose it's the old-fashioned romance appeal of them. They make us feel special.

I once had a box delivered to me from a flourist from my ex. I got really excited and, as ungrateful as it sounds, I was kind of disappointed when I opened it and a balloon popped out. It wasn't that I didn't appreciate the sentiment but as his arguement for never buying me flowers was "They'll only die" I didn't see how it was any different from a balloon - all it'll do is hang around and deflate (not to mention getting in the way and annoying me during the process)...

- Amy.
