Bragging work colleagues

Not sure if this says more about me, and feeling insecure or self pity, but this woman at work is getting on my wick.

On average.. about every other day, she goes on for hours about how much pension she'll be getting and her state pension to another big mouth woman. She also brags every week about how much her son's make and what they have .. fucking tedious ..

Is it her being annoying or does it say more about me being insecure in myself?

I never had a good job and stuck with just a state pension and not much savings

You'll probably find it's not as much as she's making out, and possibly everything else she owns is on tick - classic keeping up with the Joneses.

Remind her that there is no point in being the richest person in the graveyard

Think its more about you and what you didn't do to provide for yourself when you got older, women tend to think about pensions and comfort more, i haven't really thought about it much either but i will be ok

She's annoying not because of your insecurity but because you know she's trying to impress. Sounds quite a sad individual tbh

People with money never talk about it. Sounds like she’s actually unhappy and insecure.

BMW poor as a wise person once called it.

People who genuinely have wealth, be it financial or emotional, rarely brag to others about it. People who do are more often than not insecure themselves and plain vulgar

(Above view is a personal one and not representative of all poor people)

I used to work with a woman like this. I figured out after observing her in action that underneath the brash exterior is an insecure person...I saw her in a different light then. Always a reason behind people's behaviours a lot of the time, it's just figuring out their dynamic

That would wind me up but I often excuse myself, hide in the loo on my phone for 15 minutes, do deep breathing or pop a sedative. Or this Sunday gone I had to eat 4 portions of food before I tried to murder someone.

I've been battling mental health my whole life and it's sort of ruined any career prospects and my ability to work 40-60 hours a week.

I did take out a pension at age 25 but it's still only worth £1000 a year.

So I've worked really hard education, job and finances wise and I still have nothing substantial to show for it.

However, I'm bloody happy! I did get a lot of support financially from my parents but I'd rather not think of my parents as some sort of inheritance windfall. For all I know it might all have to go on their funeral costs!

Finding out that I have autistic traits means I have to rethink how I earn money and avoid fully retiring as much as possible.

Look we get dealt a hand and we deal with it as best we can with the support that we have.

I can't stand people that brag non-stop about money. I saw how hard my parents worked for what they have and I can't even do half of what they did.

I try to find joy in the small, cheap or free things.

I know now if I had a colleague like that I would have to ask to use noise-canceling headphones at work as a reasonable adjustment to my health conditions and disabilities.

My Da has always been good with money so he has a nice bit of retirement money. He's the biggest cheapskate I know. Lol! He's not rich but I guess people would say he's well off. I had a panic about paying for his funeral because he hasn't spoken to us about it as my Mum has about hers. My mom said not to worry as he's got enough squirreled away for his funeral.

That's a massive relief as I only now have to think about my funeral but I'd be happy with a pauper's funeral to be honest as I don't have children so no one to visit my grave or crypt.

I just don't want my family to suffer due to my lack of money/capability because they have been through a lot already and worked really hard.

Am I right in thinking you've had problems at work before?

The thing is our colleagues will get on our nerves. There's always the joker who isn't really very funny, the lazy one, the bosses pet, the hard worker, the bragger. It's part of working life and unless they're being nasty to us or stopping us doing our job I'm afraid we just have to suck it up.

I could cheerfully have told quite a few colleagues exactly what I thought of them over the course of my career and I'm darn sure loads of them felt the same about me

My advice for what it's worth is try to ignore them if you can

the land of unicorns and fairytales

We are fortunate in this country to have a great benefits system no matter how much folk slate it

The fact you say you’re autistic then you’re entitled to pip, it’s a non means tested benefit and is payable regardless of income

As for when you get older state pension and housing benefits etc will more than cover you for essential bills etc if you’re not financially secure, if you save and have pensions worth a bob or two you won’t get any financial support but if you’re paying your dues and working and spending your wages supporting the uk economy why shouldn’t you get something back later in life, I’m 43 and was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and you know what if I was bad at saving before I’m worse now, my kids will do alright without me, I don’t feel the need to leave them something when I’m older because I’ve equipped them with the life skills to work and save when they need to for things but also don’t save too much that you’re not enjoying living right here right now !! So long as your rents paid the essential bills are paid and food in the house go out and blow the rest enjoying life but please not on alcohol it’s the biggest waste of money and time ever !! Holidays road trips sports equipment stuff that makes memories

Leeds (Home) / Sheffield (Work)

Not insecure. It’s tedious to listen to. Okay you have lots of money great and then what? Go tell someone who is impressed by it lol.

I worked alongside someone whose dad is a millionaire (solid 9 figures) and one of my closest friend’s dad is on a 7 figure salary. I never knew about how wealthy their families were until 6-12months after knowing them.

I often find it’s people who don’t have much but feel the need to appear like they do, that are the ones showing off. How many people lease their cars these days…

Also, when rich people are snooty about their money they’ll be being snooty in rich people places not at an office job!

I always try not worrying what I cannot change, just do what I can. I'll try to ignore her and when I'm coming home I instantly bounce back to my content self.

If she does it, just roll your eyes saying "what a load of bollox" in your head.

Then distract yourself with something

surrounded by twinkly lights

Some people are materialistic and money is their security, I know millionaires who brag about their wealth, and millionaires who dont.

If I were you, anytime I were around her I'd just stop listening to her bragging. It's easier.

You know what is important to you, keep focusing on that

Or, tell her that all that money will never buy her a cock like yours!
