Dave got told a few days ago, that his faces redundancy the end of this month, he then gets an email to say we are giving you a pay rise.

Just feels like rubbing salt in the wound

hmmmmmmm have an inkling that somehow they the company cant do that - i do know that if they make redudndancies they cant re-employ the same position - surely if they cant afford to keep on staff they cant afford to pay more to the ones they dont get rid of

I'd grab it with both hands, I'd not feel like it was rubbing salt in a wound as not definite yet?

But sorry to hear that it has upset you. Xx

I've never been in this situation but isn't redundancy pay a multiple of the salary at the time of redundancy + whatever additional amount can be negotiated.

Getting a late pay rise might turn out to be a good thing.

There are four people who have been told, one has to go. I believe they have all been given one.

He has got feelers out and another branch of the company have shown an interest, so fingers crossed

Does that mean though that if his wage is higher, should he be unlucky enough to be made redundant, then his payout will also be higher, as it is based on salary?

Trying to find a bright side here.

It probably the standard email sent out for rise that had been set up a while ago and as such they need to inform everyone it effects. Hope everything works out for you both

Have you a CAB office near you that you can go to, it is worth checking you are are familiar with your husbands rights etc.

I have used CAB before and found them excellent use, it is free.

One hand of HR not knowing what the other is doing, I think...

Years ago, I was made redundant. A week later, I got a phone call from the MD's secretary asking me why I wasn't in Leicester at a meeting with him....

I, as politely as I could, told her that he had had the good grace to dispense with my services (along with a load of others) the week before...

To add insult to injury, I was then told that "I" should have informed HIM that I was no longer with the company...

I am pleased to say that I had the last laugh though. The whole group went bust about 3 months later, that MD has never worked at that level anywhere since (kept an eye out for him occasionally as he was so hated by everyone) and by then I had got another job which turned out to be the best I ever had during my 24 years in the printing industry.

So, I hope your OH finds something better very soon. I know it's really difficult right now, but there will be a silver lining out there for him somewhere... Good luck.

I got made redundant a few years ago, but there was much ill feeling between management and ex staff. Two weeks after I left the place was hit by lightning, nobody hurt but the PCs and servers were wrecked. I sent my ex boss an email, "Sorry you were not in when I visited".....

Lol at the lightenin. Some companies are issuing staff with new contracts for less pay and also cutting down on other payments. It seems to be happening a lot in the care sector.
