Some of these have lasted me years - one I had for 12 years & put £350k on the clock & toured Europe several times in it ??

You can do surveys on dedicated apps, that give you vouchers for supermarkets and things, which would then obviously count against what you’d already spend. Nationwide are doing a cash back account thing for a year, provided you pay your bills from there. Every type of insurance you have, make sure you look for cheaper deals pre renewal. Check the tax code you’re on, and call the tax office to check you’re not due a refund.

Loads of vouchers for things, if you look on money saving expert, plus a lot more in terms of general tips.

Thanks for that, I’ve never found a survey app/site that pays or gives vouchers for anything useful for me unfortunately. I hope your job isn’t too bad… but then again does anyone actually enjoy their job?

Depends how committed to this you are, OP!

Loads of good ideas already.

Can you get a promotion at work? Or a a higher paying alternative role?

Is there overtime available?

Do you definitely need to run a car right now? Could you sell it privately instead of part-ex - you’d get more money back.

Shop and eat better - bulk buy own brand ingredients and batch cook.

Walk/cycle where you can or lift share.

Avoid Costa.

Look at your outgoings - bills like heating can often be reduced. Do you need sky/Netflix etc?

I think tax and insurance has already been mentioned.

Sell stuff you don’t need on eBay.

Can you get a second job?

And that’s only scratching the surface!

I made it into a game...

Took 100 sticky notes and wrote down a number going from 1 to 100 on each one. Folded them up and put them in a jar. I take out one note out of the jar once a week or once a fortnight and whichever number is written on that paper I transfer it to my moneybox app.

Moneybox has two different savings options - you can either get a 30 day notice or 90 day notice.

If you're saving for something special - better get a 90day notice account as you have to wait 3 months to take the money out - it really saves you from making unnecessary purchases and makes you think before cashing out.

It's free to use short term, but if you want you can play about with your investments and maybe even make some money on them if you're savvy in stock markets.

Missus

you don't need 8k for a car. I'm guessing you need 8k for a car you'd like... But do you really need that one ?

It may sound pessimistic, but you probably aren't going to get there quickly and easily ... As otherwise every one would be doing it.

OP it’s a valid point but I appreciate not for everyone. Consider this - if you save £8,000 that’s equal to 32 months saving £250. Roughly the same as most PCP deals.

I know you never own the car but it’s a lifestyle. The way they work out your monthly payments means you often end up with £2k ish equity to use as a deposit on the next model.

So, every three years you get a new/nearly new car for £250 pm.

Once you’ve saved up your £8k you’ll own your car. But - you’ll also have to fork out for repairs, servicing, MoTs etc. You’ll also have to start saving for the next car, so that’s additional money each month.

Each to their own, of course. And there are so many personal variables you need to pick what works for you. But consider all the long term outlay.

Flipping stuff on eBay I did really well with old football shirts. Go to charity shops as often they’re not aware of their worth online. I picked up five shirts for a fiver each a Celtic shirt made me £35 and the other four between £7 to £15 with postage I got close to £100. They were washed and in good condition.

Look for old tour T-shirts big bands like AC/DC if you get lucky, they’re worth over £100 these days.

I once bought some women’s shoes for £25 they didn’t fit I ended up selling them for over £100. Admittedly that was a lucky find.

First off if buying cash I’d get that 8K for 5K from an auction, you must know someone you can buy a nice case of wine and sage yourself 2-3K? If not just overbid the smart dealers and still save yourself 1-2K

Now split your budget into two items essential and luxury. Keep reminding yourself everything that isn’t essential is luxury. Use cash not cards. Good luck

Anyway, i suspect you are having a rant rather than trying to help.

"Apparently there's a guy on here with a bunch of pound coins all up in his foreskin, so you could ask him for a few quid "

Some people took that literally. Can't have a joke on here without causing offence and getting blocked.

Getting back to the OP's question. I would have to know what your lifestyle is. Some people spend money on unnecessary things.

I don't need to rant..telling the op facts..why is how many hours a week relevent ... approximately 18 to 20 weekly on average the ones I know..

£200 a week X10 months approximately tax free is the amount he requires..

because if he's also working (I assume he is) then he may struggle to find the time to sit in the street all day. And he's probably better off working and getting taxed than doing a stint of begging. And that's assuming your 200ppw is "only" 8 hours a day, 5 day pw.

But even of it's "only 20 hours", then begging all weekend for eight months doesnt sound amazing help.

Not " better off working and getting taxed" ( and ni insurance)..

Eg : universal credit ( which includes rent and unemployment benefit, let's say £200 a week, plus £200 professional begging is around £400..tax free

40 hours work @ £10 per hour ( actually £9.50 national minimum) is £400 ..minus tax , national insurance, workplace pension,so not better off working
