It's perfectly normal and a very sensible thing to do. I always do the left first.

Either is fine, socks first or after pants. Apparently a poll showed 54% put pants first, 46% socks first. Everyone is unanimous in left sock first, for good luck

Depends on whether the shoes are handy when I put on my socks. If not, socks on and walk to where I left my shoes.
