Some crazy scientists are suggesting that male and female are removed from the English language and the terms, egg carriers and sperm producers used instead. Tom is no fan of these science types. What is going on here guys. It's all over the news

Personally, alhtough as ever we are bereft of source material for this story, I highly doubt it’s scientists wanting to do this, as it’s the opposite of science.

I dont carry my eggs they are just sort of there? Same way I dont carry my heart, blood etc. I demand a rebrand.

Male and female should instead be referred to as “sperm-producing” and “egg-producing,” the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) Language Project said, according to the Times of London.

Meanwhile, father and mother should be labeled “parent,” “egg donor” and “sperm donor” in the scientific field.

The group has called on the scientific field to use words that are more “inclusive and precise,” according to a press release from the University of British Columbia, which has three researchers in the initiative.”

So, some language researchers asking scientists to use different language then. Not scientists. Amazing what you can learn when you read.

The group have issued a paper that ahs some ideas of how we use words. It's a broadly sensible paper from a skim.

They also have section on the website where anyone can put in a harmful name and a replacement term. It is not clear how this is policed. If at all. So egg donor could be a wind up. Hell, it could even be a journo plant.

The Times have combined the two as its all in the paper written by the scientists.

The wider press have reported on what the times has says.

Everyone gets their clicks. Tom gets to start a thread.

Why can't male, female and mother and father still be included... That is not inclusive language at all... If you can choose a pronoun that has nothing to do with anything, someone else can choose to be called one of those without being called something shitty names on the Internet, surely?
