I have made some great friends over the years but with work and life we have drifted apart.

We are still there for each other at the end of the phone but not as close as once were.

My daughter and I are really close. There is nothing I can't share with her and her I. We are open with each other and never fear judgement.

She is my best friend.

I don't really feel the need for others really.

Do you have a best friend?

Do you find it easier to be friends with the opposite sex?

Or are you quite happy holding your own councel and need no one?

I've known my best friend for 15 years. I don't class her as a friend, she's family. We are like sisters and are auntie to eachother's kids. We live hours from eachother and have done for about 9 years but we see eachother at least once a year and speak pretty much every day. We could be opposite ends of the earth and still be as close.

I'm not in touch with any friends from school. I gave up on those in my mid 20s because it was all one way traffic.

I've never classed work colleagues as proper friends because I knew very little about most of them outside the working environment and could count on one hand those who's homes I had visited.

I spent many many years keeping my own counsel but in the last 10 years or so I've made some really good and close friends.

I've always found it easier to talk to women so I didn't have a male friend until I joined a walking group and met some great people that way.

I've also made some great friends both male and female through fab and while most of those are no longer on the site we are still in touch.

I have a couples profile here with my fab bestie and we speak every single day and are very supportive of each other.

I've described our friendship before as based on trust and being able to be completely raw and naked with each other while still fully dressed.

Like you op,I'm not as close to my best friend as I used to be

I'd say my daughter was my best friend I was there when she gave birth to my 3 Grandchildren, we go on holiday together,I look after the kids whiles she works,we chat about anything and everything ,wr don't always agree on things though and she can be very stubborn

She also knows that I'm on fab

She doesn't judge, always listens regardless knows when to give cuddles and only asks for food and a warm bed.

Apart from yakking up the odd furball she's the perfect friend.

Aww that's really lovely OP.

I don't have one best friend to rule them all.

I've got some friends who I'm very close to. A boyfriend. A fiancé. Although I use those identifiers, I'm generally not the biggest fan of saying this person is the closest and kind of ranking people in that way. I did have more male friends than female at one point. Now, it's pretty even.

I'd rather not hold my own counsel because my overthinking/Dunning-Krugering would lead to utter chaos. Plus, I love people. Find them fascinating, delightful. I sometimes think of my friends as holding little pieces of a jigsaw that represent my life. Each one of them in their own way contributes to it.

I have a great bunch of friends guys/women few guys but mainly women were able to share anything among us I understand at times it can be difficult for most women talking about things with a guy, but we talk like we've known each other our entire lives and share any little secrets... Most of us have also drifted apart

I’ve made some fantastic friends over the years but, sadly, have lost touch with most of them.

The core group that remains is mainly chums from school and I like this. We’ve literally known each other all our lives.

That being said, I no longer see or talk to my two best friends from school (only through life circumstances).

I have two best friends (which feels a little juvenile to say!) and I talk to them regularly about life. I was best man at each of their weddings and wouldn’t be able to choose between them if I ever (!) get married.

For years I have been a loner and only ever sought my own councel, but I now recognise that isn’t healthy for me. I need to have an outlet otherwise I bottle stuff up and ruminate.

My best friend is a young woman I met through other friends when I was recovering from the breakup of my marriage, she was going through a similar experience so we were able to help each other emotionally.

Obviously we’ve got a lot of shared interests as well so our conversations can range from our nerdy interests to our sex lives.

Without the compassion and friendliness she showed me in my darkest times I doubt I’d be here

This might seem morbid but two of my best friends died at a young age and so I’ve never wanted to get that close to people again.

I’ve got a lot of people that I’m friends with but I moved away from where I lived, grew up, my family are and so making new friends isn’t as easy. I make friends easily though and have a lot of work colleagues I’m friends with.

C is my closest friend - we have and can share everything together - it’s incredible to be able to do that for me - it feels fantastic literally sharing everything together

Best friends seemed to become a bit competitive, there was one girl and everyone wanted to be her best mate, she was lovely! But I got fed up of the "one-up manship" with other people.

My daughter is my best friend and I’m hers, we’ve come along way in our relationship to get to the point as it’s very precious.

I’ve learnt over the last few months that the best relationship is the one you have with yourself, to love you allows you to let others in and love back x

I don't have a best friend really. I hold my own counsel. I'm a pretty shit friend tbf as I don't socialise and happy in my own company

I am often the one who is there for whatever everyone else needs yet I do not expect anyone to be there for me....I had quite a bad fall at work the other day and my boss said that it shook her because I am the strong one in the team that holds everyone up

My rock and my strength is my son, he has been there and seen me through some pretty shit times, he's always stepped up without question and without me asking.

I don’t want to be a Debbie downer and sadden the mood.

I’m 38yr and I had the same best friend for 22yrs. My parents used to call us Tom and Linda from gimme gimme gimme only she never had ginger hair. Tracey (b/f) was my world and I hers, we used to to everything together. On nights out if I was showering at hers she’d come in the bathroom and sit on the toilet seat and start a conversation and it’s cause she didn’t like being alone. I actually passed my driving test on her birthday as well.

Sadly she passed away last year of a brain tumour, 35 yrs, she was so brave right to the very end, the last thing she said to me was that she has always loved having me as her best friend and that she loves me.

I miss her every single day, not being able to ring her, txt her or see her face to face.

Life’s too short to be falling out with friends, especially best friends, I’m jealous of people who have there’s with them still.

Best friends are the siblings we chose, we chose them for a reason and don’t forget to tell them that you love them dearly xxx

Did have what I thought was a lifetime best friend. Closer to me than a brother for many years. Turned out he hurt me in a way worse than I could imagine since then I’ve had people I get on with but will never again have a best friend. Can’t trust like that again as the hurt made me have a breakdown.

A "best friend" ? No. I have an old friend from school days and we chat quite regularly. I have a few circles of friends I see once a year or so. We have a circle of 2 other close married to each other friends who we see and speak to very regularly.

And then there are 2 "other friends" who we have drifted apart from due to circumstance. Those 2 are married but there was a shared affection between all 4 of us, and it did lead to some fun times, but sadly it fizzled out, which is a shame as we all liked each other. We still see them but don't mention the "other times", in case it might make them uncomfortable.

I’ve always got on with women easier than men because of a simple fact that with a woman you don’t get the whole look you up and down, square up macho/ego bullshit. I find the opposite sex take you as face value and not in fact if your harder than me or not
