...is it the most romantic day of the year? Or is it an absolute load of old bollocks? Discuss:

It's not either I don't think.

It's nice to have a day when people feel they can send a card to someone or buy them a present.

A load of bollocks that some people choose to make as their most romantic day of the year.

Absolute load of old bollocks.

It's just an excuse to charge £5 for a rose , when the rest of the year you can get a bunch of rose for that.

Ps I prefer rose plant it lasts longer

I think it’s whatever people want it to be. Some will think it’s commercialism of what should be an honest, unadorned gesture; some love the excuse to show someone how much they care.

Personally, I think it probably sits most nicely as a mechanism by which single people can make a brave leap in connecting with someone.

I don't bother with valentines day.. I don't see why there should be just one special day to show someone you care.. I mean, surely that should be every day right? And it doesn't even have to be big or lavish.. even the little things count

Corporate nonsense as far as I'm concerned...

If you want to buy a gift/spoil someone, why wait for a particular day to do it?

It is the most romantic day of the year. Whether that romance is genuine or not is another story.

We try to do little romantic things for each other just as part of our everyday relationship so Valentines day doesn't bother us, we will however be marking it this year with a club visit and hopefully an orgy

Where the flamboyance of flamingos live

When you’re single, like me it’s an absolute load of bollocks and just reminds you that you’re single and alone and no one loved you.

I shall by the dine in for two from M n S and enjoy it over 2 days, my gift of love to myself xx

I love it. I like the idea of it, but sure, you can choose your own day…. Like pancake day…..,

It’s a day I can celebrate my love for someone, go that extra mile, it could be a whisper in her ear or a single flower handed to her with a cup of coffee. Her favourite meal, sending a romantic poem by text. I scoff at those that think it’s about money. It’s about love and reminding you it’s all around….*cue music. ..

Valentines day started as a "romantic" day in the 14th century. A good while before the USA was founded.

Before that it is generally believed the day originated from the Roman pagan festival of fertility called Lupercalia, an event filled with animal sacrifice, random coupling and the whipping of women; not quite the romantic chocolate and roses day that we celebrate today.

If you go to a card shop and buy a card and one of the many valentines day "gifts" on offer it can feel a bit contrived.

I'd much rather gift something that celebrates the day, but doesn't jump on the cheese fest of gifts.

If you're going to celebrate the day, make it personal.

I do the while valentines thing with a card and maybe a wee pressies or two for Mr. But I also do random cards and gifts throughout the year, because there shouldn't be just one day of the year to show someone you love them, and appreciate them. Just my opinion.

?

It's a load of commercialised codswallop. If somebody that purports to love me needs a special day to tell me so, then they're not really the one for me. That same gesture would mean so much more to me on any other day of the year.
