Cover with clingfilm and an overnight in the fridge would have worked or just on the cupboard so long as u leave it a long time

Don't forget to boil the bagels after proving for a minute each side in simmering water before baking as this is what gives them their classic chewy texture

Stand on a chair next to a warm radiator.

Or as someone else said they will prove in a cold place (including the fridge) if left overnight.

Ok, new question.....how do I know when it's done proving? The recipe said an hour but it hasn't risen that much as the heating wasn't on lol

Have put it on a radiator with heating on now....will it just stop rising or what???

Think of it like a cock...it starts off flaccid, when it doubles in size it ready

Sounds odd but the easiest place to prove it is in an airing cupboard.

As others have said cover with cling film.

I always place a little oil on the top before covering and it wont stick. Just one drop and smooth it over with your hand.

It should at least double in size and a little more in an hour.

Hope this helps.

It should be twice the size if not more I would give it about 45 mins now heating is on. My bread this morning took ages to prove as the heating hadn't been on. It will be dense and heavy if you don't leave it long enough
