I see my dad for dinner each week, call throughout the week. Hug a kiss and tell him I love him whenever we meet/leave.

Mum's in Athens. I call and message couple times a week and surprised her there in August 2021.

Am I a good son (apart from all my other shortcomings)

That she doesn’t use me as a role model so much as she does better then I managed to

Otherwise a smile and hug would be great

To come home on time.

Not have to be collected from a police station 60 miles away.

Pick me a decent care home.

I wait with baited breath on the 3rd one

You only get one mum i like having a catch up with them too!. I got lucky and step dad's a bonus dad.

Actual dad has operation tomorrow to remove his cancerous prostate.

Probably something to do with it.

That isn't why I mentioned having a spare dad!

I see we have similar aged children

Stop bringing home the plague

Go to sleep at a reasonable time

Pick your stuff up off the floor

A hug?! What are we animals? That's what handshakes and fist pumps were invented for?

Been there my friend. Time does make it a bit easier. Write feelings down. It's amazing to be able to go back to it and relearn how deep some feelings can be.

Seriously though. Any or all the above would all be nice. I'm seeing mine tonight which I'm really looking forward to. Simple things.

I'd add...

To be appreciated, respected and valued by them...and the occasional contact that I've not been completely forgotten about.

If I was being cynical; I'd say the hug is purely for them to reach around you to take your wallet from your back pocket,

The phone call to ask for yet another favour.

And the visit is to get their washing done

Three things I'd like:

For the floor not to be turned into a floor-drobe.

My savings account not to become their spending account.

And my fridge and pantry to be turned into famin areas.

Nice thread. Makes us realise how lucky we are to have had or still have that closeness. Some people don't. Regret nothing.

It's amazing how much we leaned on them isn't it? Even if it was only leaning on their presence. Its different for everyone I appreciate that. Best of luck with the next part of your journey.

Respect.

To always try their best at whatever they do.

To be able to talk about any issues they may encounter.

(She/ her) in Sensualityland

There was a great book with the title along the lines "children are only guests who are asking for the way"

I thought that encapsulated the role model aspect and the temporary window of opportunity we have as parents to set a decent example of human behaviour.
