Penshaw Monument, if I'm driving from somewhere north of here.

If I'm driving from somewhere south of here, then the stench of chemical factories when you get near to Middlesbrough used to be unmistakeable

Near Wells

Penhil TV mast on the Mendips, you can see it for miles from almost every direction.

As a kid I used to get excited when I saw that mast, knowing I'd soon be home.

Helston... or St Awful?...

Cornwall has a set of nearly home trees.

The minute you see them it takes 3 minutes at 70mph to reach the Cornwall county sign

The Neath valley, in my opinion is the most beautiful in the country. I've seen it in every shade and hue, spring, summer, autumn and winter when working away. To me as I come over Hirwaun roundabout, and see Glyn Neath nestling in the vale in mist or baked in sunshine, knowing that off to the west is the national treasure of waterfall country, then on past the lake on one side with the Neath canal on the other, with swift flowing river views in between, then over Resolven roundabout, and past the Aberdulus falls, and on to llandarcy then home. It's almost like the car is a pigeon that knows it's own way home.

Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight

Arriving at a ferry terminal on the Isle of Wight.

As annoying and expensive as it can be, that crossing does result in reaching a place that so many want to make a home for themselves.
