team building

anyone had any experience or got any suggestions to unite a work place?

Ive been at the new job for just 3 days now and we've all just been sent home (paid) because the work environment is so bad. Two groups have formed and there is a lot of bitching. Its mainly down to boredom as we are all employed with no work to actually do so finding it frustrating.

Could you all be doing something to prepare you for when the work does start? I would never send a work team home because of lack of work. There is always something that can be done.

I have lots of team building exercises I do for organisations but you should not be at bitching in 3 days. It sounds like the managers need some guidance before you launch into team building.

Are you being sent home paid??

If it were me I'd be looking to the employers to get them to find something to do. Perhaps additional training etc? Or going to other homes

There are around 30 staff who have all been there for 3 weeks already and only so much cleaning an empty unused brand new nursing home needs doing. We have already completed a full week of training and we all got on brilliantly.

I had two weeks 'off' as i had made plans prior to even applying for the job and were Ok'd when i was offered the role. Think its because the staff are just sat around tables with nothing to do. Ive been there 3 days and visibly there are two groups and friction. Its just boring and demoralizing to be sat around.

Its bad and ive only been there 3 days, let alone how the others feel like that have been there 3 weeks

Talk to the managers about additional training together - in things that may not be directly related to the role but that you would all find useful. Assertiveness, problem solving, time management etc. You could each take it in turns to deliver two or three hour training session so you all develop some presentation and training skills too.

Indoor paint balling, mud wrestling or split into two teams and have a food fight?

All good fun - with the added bonus of creating mess that will then keep you all busy for a few hours cleaning up!!

I managed a new supported housing scheme... I got the staff to make up posters... on different matters. I got them to work in a group and think of an activity planner.. I got them making the place look like a home.. We also did role plays on different situations that might occur.. I never ever sent them home because there was nothing to do...

If they manage more than one nursing home, maybe some people can help out in other homes?

I was in a job with not much work before, it was very demoralising. I made it my mission to make my boss leave (I found him a placement elsewhere) so that I'd have more to do!

Management have a lot of responsibility when it comes to this...
